Julious Devoy Rivers

CHINA GROVE - Julious "Red" Devoy Rivers, 90, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009, at the N.C. State Veterans Home in Salisbury.

Born July 9, 1919, in Chesterfield County, S.C., to the late Clarence Charlie and Lela Jordan Rivers, he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II and was a veteran of Civilian Conservation Corp.

Julious retired from Cannon Mills, where he worked as a machine fixer. Enjoying music, he played the guitar and the harmonica.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cornelia Goodin Blake; brothers King Rivers, Blake Rivers, David Rivers; and sister Grace Rivers.

Survivors include sons Ray Rivers (Diane) of China Grove, Tony Rivers (Earlene) of Salisbury; grandchildren Julie York (Jeff), Philip Rivers (Christy), Jason Rivers (Suzanne), Bryan Rivers (Elizabeth), Chad Rivers (Deana); and 11 great-grandchildren.

Service: 3 p.m. Friday at South China Grove Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Shane Utley. Interment to follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 1:30-3 p.m. Friday at South China Grove Baptist Church.

Memorials: South China Grove Baptist Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 163, China Grove, NC 28023.
