Kay Woods Obituary

Ms. Kay Frances Sherman Woods, 81, passed on Monday, January 9, 2023 at her residence. Born November 3, 1941 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late William Sherman and Virginia Houston. Educated in the public schools of Rowan County, she was a graduate of J. C. Price High School. She was last employed as a nurse in the Mental Health Unit at the W.G. Bill Hefner V.A. Medical Center. She was a very active member of First Calvary Baptist Church. Ms. Woods served as a Deaconess, previous president of Missionary Unit #4, member of the General Missionary, Black History Committee, Sunday School and assisted with Vacation Bible School. Ms. Woods was also very active in the community. She served as President of the Dixonville/Lincoln Community Association, member of the Dixonville-Lincoln Memorial Task Force, President of the J.C. Price Class of 59 Reunion Committee, previous representative for the SRCAA Dixonville Association and was the previous East Side Representative. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star where she served as Secretary, past Worthy Matron, Star Point, and Associate Conductress. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Shelia Woods-Abrams. Those left to cherish her memories are her loving and devoted grandchildren, DiMario Abrams of Charlotte, Jillian Abrams-Sturdivant (Dennis, Jr.) of Mocksville, Lisa Abrams of Salisbury, and Tamilia Abrams of Charlotte; great-grandchildren, Madison Abrams, Joyah Abrams-Hall, Cameron Nelson, Dyson Abrams, and Soraya Dotson; first cousins, Clarence Houston, Alphonia Denner, and Robert Donald; special cousins, Dawn Nicole Houston-Lee, Phillip Damien Houston, and Michael Murry; a host of other cousins, relatives, and friends. Arrangements: Public Walk Thru Monday, January 16, 2023 from 1-3pm at the funeral home. Services will be Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at First Calvary Baptist Church, Salisbury, with Visitation at 11am and Funeral at 12pm. Burial will follow service at City Memorial Cemetery. Reverend Dr. Barbara Hart, Associate Pastor, Officiating. Mask are required during services. Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Inc. is assisting the Woods family. I had the pleasure of meeting Kay back in 2004 when I was the manager of the apartments. We took a number of great trips to Charleston, Gatlinburg etc. She was a dear friend even after I left the office. She will be missed.
