Larry Eugene Shipton, 77, of Salisbury, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at his residence in Salisbury, NC after a period of declining health. He was born June 28, 1941 in Gold Hill, NC to Charlie Jeremiah Shipton and Lillie Morgan Shipton. Larry grew up in Immanuel Lutheran Church and later became a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He attended Rockwell High School, Class of 1959 and retired from West Atlantic Trucking. Larry enjoyed fishing at the Outer Banks, camping with his family, and loved to watch his grandkids play sports. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brother, Edwin Ray Shipton and sister, Doris Shipton Deese. Larry is survived by his wife Iris Barger Shipton ,whom he married October 14, 1960; two sons, Bryant Eugene (Rachel) Shipton of Charleston, SC and Damon Todd (Lori) Shipton Sr. of Gold Hill, NC; daughter, Larissa Michelle Shipton (Chris) Hall of Rockwell, NC; sister, Ruby Shipton (A.B. "Flick") Talbert of Newport News, VA; ten grandchildren, Brooke Shipton (Josiah) Anderson, Bryson Jeremiah (Lindsey) Shipton, Brittany Shipton (Stephen) Hicks, Brelynn Shipton (Aaron) Bass, Damon "Todd" (fiancée Sarah Mizell) Shipton Jr., Magen (fiancée Michael Myers) Shipton, Savannah (Austin) Shipton- Hill, Landon Hall, Chasen Hall, and Kiersyn Hall; three step-gandchildren, Micah Winters, Austin Winters, and Madison Winters; six great-grandchildren, Adeline Shipton, Hudson Shipton, baby boy Shipton due in November, Samuel Anderson, Katherine Hicks, and Jade Shipton; and one step-great- grandson, Jaden Crosby. The family will greet friends and relatives on Saturday, June 15, 2019, 12:00-1:45 pm at Bethel Baptist Church, 401 Depot Street, Rockwell, NC. The funeral service is 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor John Houghton and Rev. Bruce Sheeks, officiating. Burial will take place in the Brookhill Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Rockwell Christian School, PO Box 609, Rockwell, NC 28138. The family would like to thank Rowan County EMS, Linda Taylor, PT and his doctors, Dr. Ronnie Barrier, Dr. William Furr, and Dr. William Brinkley for their compassionate care. Daddy, I can only imagine what it would be like if I could see you now! My heart is broken and I miss you so much! I never knew what hurt was like until now. I'm so thankful for all the memories I can hold in my heart and cherish forever! You were the BEST Daddy ever and I know you loved me and my family unconditionally. Iris and family- I am so very sorry to hear of Larry's passing. I didnt know that he was so sick again. The last I heard, he was doing well. I was shocked to see it. He was a wonderful and kind man. I thought a lot of him and your family. I'm keeping you all in my thoughts, and covering you with prayers of comfort and peace.
