In Loving Memory of Margaret “Peggy” McCanless Efird
June 26, 2025 – Graveside Service
Today, we laid to rest our beloved Peggy at the Efird Family Plot in Fairview Memorial Park, Albemarle, North Carolina. It was a beautiful and heartfelt graveside service, surrounded by family, lifelong friends, and the peaceful sounds of a Carolina summer—exactly the kind of farewell she deserved.
Peggy was honored with her favorite yellow roses, a symbol of the joy and light she brought into all our lives.
We extend our deepest thanks to her granddaughter, Paris Furst, whose moving violin performance of Ode to Joy—played on the very instrument Peggy gifted her in childhood—was a powerful tribute of love and legacy that touched every heart present.
Special thanks also to Pastor David Haley of Wrightsville United Methodist Church, whose thoughtful words brought comfort, peace, and spiritual strength to all who gathered in Peggy’s memory.
Peggy’s life was a testament to grace, humor, kindness, and devotion to family. While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the lasting impact of a life so beautifully lived and so deeply loved.
To each of you who has shared your memories, sent flowers, meals, cards, hugs, or simply stood by us during this time—thank you. Your love and support have meant everything.
With heartfelt gratitude,
The Family of Margaret “Peggy” McCanless Efird

The Taylors LOVE the Efirds! Peggy, Frank Sr, Frank Jr., Ellis, Jan, and Margaret have been life long friends of ours since the 60's when they all arrived in New Bern. Fine people! Peggy was always such a wonderful, wise lady and excellent wife to Frank Sr. and mother to her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. She will be truly missed.

Mrs Efrid was a wonderful lady. I was fortunate to have Jan, Frank, and Margaret in my youth Group at Garber United Methodist Church in New Bern. The family was missed when they left Riverbend.

Ellis, Frank Jr., Jan, Margaret, Frank Sr. and all your family, your dear mama was one of the sweetest people I've known. I can see she was greatly loved, a reflection of her kind spirit, and the Furst family was very fond of her. Thinking of you...Love, Linda

I truly believe she was the most wonderful Christian lady I have ever known. I credit her for alone bringing Wrightsville United Methodist Church thru the closed doors of COVID! She was truly the most committed Christian person to her Faith and her walk of stewardship. Heaven has truly gained an angel.

My heart hurts. I have never known a lady who was so sweet, always making sure that her family, Friends and colleagues were taken care of. I cherish the ten years that I worked with Peggy and will always remember the decorating talents that she had and the many beautiful houses she decorated over the many years that she and Frank were developing River Bend. She was such a good mother to her children and Frank. Also a great cook.
I always was so excited to see what she was cooking for Frank and the office crew. It was always delicious and such a pleasure to dine with her and the others. To Frank and all the family, please accept our sincere sympathy in this great ladies passing. I am sure you will miss her terribly and please remember that one day we will all be together again. I hope she will cook us some more of those delicious meals. I love your entire family, some I have not seen, and will be praying for you to feel the presence of our God in the days ahead. Please keep in touch
If there is anything I can do, please let me know.
