Marvin Burnette Obituary

Marvin Allen Burnett, Sr., 96, of Salisbury, North Carolina, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 5, 2025.

He was born on October 9, 1928, in Rockwood, Tennessee, to Clifford Franklin Burnett, Sr. and Permelia Monk Burnett. Marvin lived a long and faithful life marked by service, love, and devotion to both his family and his church.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1953, where he flew on a KB-29 refueling plane as a boom operator. After completing his service, Marvin worked for Southern Railroad for 42 years.

His steadfast work ethic was matched only by his commitment to Milford Hills Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir, served as a deacon, and was a dedicated member of the building and grounds committee. He was also the oldest member of Milford Hills Baptist Church. He always made sure everything was in order at the church--a reflection of his servant's heart and love for the Lord.

Marvin shared 66 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Hazel Harkness Burnett, before her passing on January 6, 2017. Together, they built a loving family and a legacy rooted in faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Clifford Franklin Burnett, Jr. and John Claude Burnett; his sister, Vera Kathleen Brooks; and his grandson, William Bryan Hutchens.

Those left to cherish his memory include son, Marvin Allen Burnett, Jr. (Gina) of Salisbury, NC, daughters, Cindy Pruett (Kenny) of Woodleaf, NC; Nancy Burnett (fiance Eddie Bruce) of Cleveland, NC; grandchildren, Kelly Barnhardt (Josh) of Charlotte, NC; Daniel Pruett (Amanda) of Lexington, NC; Jason Burnett (Kara) of Salisbury, NC; Christine Cousins (Jesse) of Mocksville, NC; great-grandchildren, Lane Kimmer, Addison Kimmer, Sawyer Kimmer, Emory Barnhardt, Madison Cousins, Vater Pruett, Jensen Barnhardt, Hudson Burnett, Noah Cousins, Quinn Burnett, and Bryson Cousins.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice and to his caregivers, Tosha Palmer, Venita Peck, and Jamie Cannady, whose kindness, compassion, and care brought him comfort in his final months. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing him.

Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m, Monday, September 8, 2025 at Milford Hills Baptist Church, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m, officiated by Pastor Gray Clayton. Burial will follow with military honors at Rowan Memorial Park cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Milford Hills Baptist Church, 1238 E Colonial Drive, Salisbury, NC 28144 and Novant Hospice, 1220 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28144.
