Mary Bryson Obituary

Mrs. Mary Catherine Ellis Bryson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. Born on a joyous Christmas Day, December 25, 1951, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Charles “CJ” Hogue and Bernice Ellis. Mrs. Mary's vibrant spirit, warm heart, and outgoing personality brought joy to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Educated in Rowan County public schools, Mrs. Mary proudly graduated from R.A. Clement High School and later attended Business College, further demonstrating her ambition and commitment to excellence. Her career included dedicated years at General Electric, where she was known not only for her reliability and hard work as an assembler but also for her ability to lift the spirits of her colleagues.

Outside of work, Mrs. Mary embraced life wholeheartedly. She had a special love for soulful melodies, often unwinding to the timeless music of Luther Vandross. She enjoyed adventures, frequently taking long, scenic drives to capture the beauty of nature through her photographs. Her vibrant personality also found joy in socializing at the internet cafe, where laughter and camaraderie were abundant.

Mrs. Mary's life was deeply rooted in her unwavering faith. A cherished member of Cedar Grove AME Zion Church, she proudly served on the Usher Board, warmly greeting and uplifting all who entered the sanctuary. Her love for the Lord was evident in her daily life, instilling strong values and kindness in those around her.

Her birthday, Christmas Day, was a celebration she cherished dearly, passionately embracing the holiday season. Known for her signature dish, macaroni and cheese, Mary took great joy in cooking and sharing meals, ensuring everyone felt loved and included. The color red, symbolic of love and vitality, was not only her favorite color but a reflection of her spirited personality.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mary Bryson was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James Bryson, and her sister, Doris Connor.

Her legacy continues through the loving memories cherished by her son, Brian Ellis (Stephanie Polk) of Salisbury; granddaughter, Brianna Ellis; and great-granddaughter, Timyah Neiobi Neal; brother, Ralph Ellis (Beverly) of Spencer; sister, Alice Rankin of Brooklyn, NY; and she leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends who were blessed by her presence.

Arrangements: Services will be Friday, April 25, 2025 at Cedar Grove AME Zion Church with Visitation at 12:00 pm and Funeral at 1:00 pm. Interment will be Monday, April 28, 2025 at 12:30 pm at the Salisbury National Cemetery. Reverend Dr. Deborah Hall, Pastor, Eulogist.
