Mary Reavis

Mary Geneva “Gebbie” Shillinglaw Reavis, 93, of Salisbury went home to be with Jesus on Aug. 14, 2018, within two hours of her 94th birthday, at the Meadows of Rockwell. She was born Aug. 15, 1924 in Rowan County to the late Marion Connor “Doc” Shillinglaw and Bessie Spears Shillinglaw. She was educated in Rowan County, and she enjoyed attending the Fink-Yost School reunions. She retired from Cone Mills in Salisbury. She was a former member of Liberty Baptist and Community Baptist where she enjoyed teaching Mission Friends. She was a current member of South China Grove Baptist Church. She loved her Lord and treasured God's Word. She enjoyed playing and winning WRNA”s Bible Trivia. Geneva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James Vernon (J.V. 1971); her only child, daughter, Cordelia R. Cooper (1973); brothers, Marshall, Otho and Earl Shillinglaw; and sisters, Dorothy Goodman, Mabel Funderburk, Evelyn S. Reavis, Lois Smith, and Rachel S. Miller. She is survived by one grandson; her niece, Renee Miller Simmons (Reed) who was her longtime caregiver and was loved as her own daughter; and her great-niece, Elizabeth “Doodle Bug” Simmons and her great-nephews, Zachary, Joshua, Daniel, and Luke Simmons who were loved as her own grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous other nieces and nephews. Visitation and Service: Visitation will be on Saturday from 1 until 2 p.m., at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove, with funeral to follow at 2 p.m., also at the funeral home conducted by Zachary Simmons. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. The family wishes to thank the staff of The Meadows of Rockwell and Trellis Supportive Care (formerly Hospice of Rowan) for the care they provided.
