Mattie Opehlia Belk Wise

Mattie Ophelia Belk Wise, 97, of Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016 in Salisbury. Born Dec. 2, 1918 in Palmerville, (Stanly County), she was the daughter of the late William Atlas Belk and Annie Collette Belk. Mrs. Wise graduated from the China Grove Farm Life School. She was a mother and a homemaker. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and a strong supporter of The ARC of Rowan (for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities). Mrs. Wise was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie B. Wise in 2001 and daughter-in-law, Janet L. Wise in 2013, sisters, Ola Mae Adams, Vera Abernathy, Virginia Bradshaw, Yvonne Waggoner and Mildred Deal; and brother, William Belk. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Phillip Brady Wise of Salisbury, Gary Steven Wise and wife Wanda of Fincastle, Va. and Randy Dale Wise of the home; grandchildren, Christopher Brent Wise and wife Susan, Angela Jan Wise, Gregory Phillip Wise and wife Casey, Tracy Wise Goodman and Walter Jr., Bradley Wise and wife Sherry, Kristen Wise Moore and Brent, Daniel Wise and wife Jessi, Tim Foutz and wife Laurileigh and Eric Foutz and wife Becky; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Lucas and Jacob Wise, Madie and Gracie Wise, Nathan Hudson, Jessica Goodman Yates and husband Seth, Bradon and Jordan Wise, Cinnamon Moore, Gracelyn Hunter, Parker, Judah and Dannica Wise, Katie Foutz and Victoria Hunt and Cameron, Lauren and Jared Foutz; great- great-grandchildren, Charles Leim Hudson, Summer Hollomen, Mia Yates and Ziva Yates; and sisters, Betty Belk Hampton and Juanita Belk Howell. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016 at Salem Lutheran Church. Service: Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ritchie Honeycutt, minister of Landis Baptist Church officiating.
