Max Luther

Max Steven Luther, 66, of China Grove passed away Thursday, May 19, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born in Rowan County, NC to the late John Frank and Mary (Tince) Withers Luther, he graduated from South Rowan High School in 1967 and Appalachian State University in 1971. He worked for the town of China Grove as Town Clerk from 1973 to 1991 and retired from Power Curbers, where he received the Richard D. Messinger Commitment Award, in August 2015. Throughout his life, he served his community and his church in a number of ways, including as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Salisbury, as an EMT and volunteer fireman, and as a member and past president of the Civitan Club. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jane Harwood Luther; his two sons, Joel William Luther and John Steven Luther, both from China Grove; his brother, Jerry Dale Luther and wife Margaret, of Salisbury; and his sister, Carrie Frankcine (Frankie) Luther, of Greensboro. He was an avid fan of the Duke Blue Devils and a proud Duke father. Visitation and Service: The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Salisbury on Monday, May 23, with service to follow.
