Mildred Gibson Obituary

Mildred Black Gibson, affectionately known as Moochie, was born to the late James and Lillian Black in Salisbury, on April 5, 1928. She transitioned from this life and went home to be with Lord on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. Mildred was educated in the Rowan-Salisbury Public School System and received her high school equivalency diploma from Rowan Technical Community College. After spending nearly 20 years working in New York, she returned to Salisbury and worked for many years at Knox Middle School. She was an avid reader and researcher. She loved to learn new recipes, to study her family tree, and remained curious about all things, never losing interest in knowing more about every subject. Mildred was a dedicated member of Jerusalem Baptist Church where she served on several auxiliaries, including Senior Missionaries, the Deaconess Board, the Kitchen Committee and the Senior Choir. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard “Ricky” Warren; her sisters, Mattie B. Long and Lena B. Archie; as well as brothers, James Black Jr. and Charles T. Black. Left to cherish her memory and her legacy are her husband, Edward; her son and devoted caregiver, Larry Warren (Sylvia); her stepchildren, Edward D. Gibson (Debra), Charity L Gibson Cruse, Kenneth Gibson (Jamie), Robert Gibson, Larry Gibson, Nathaniel Gibson and Johanna L. Gibson; her sister, Idella B. Watkins; her grandchildren, Jacquelyn Roberson, Maurice Warren Sr., Florence Warren, Larry Warren, Norman Warren, Latoya Warren, Nicholas Warren and Abraham Warren; and a very special niece, Carolyn Napoleon. She was very proud of her 23 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. Mildred also leaves behind 16 step-grandchildren, 22 step-great-grandchildren, 31 step great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Service & Visitation: Services will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Jerusalem Baptist Church with the visitation at 11:30 a.m. and funeral at 12 p.m. Interment will follow after services in the church cemetery. Rev. Dr. David L. Bracken, pastor, will officiate. At other times the family will receive friends at the home of her son and daughter-in-law at 729 Tanglewood Dr., Salisbury. Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences may be sent to www.nobleandkelsey.com.
