Nell Eugenia Shue Waring, age 81of Landis died on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at The Retreat at Cary in Cary, NC. Eugenia was born February 4,1943 in Salisbury, NC and was the daughter of the late Paul Alexander Shue and Nell Eugenia Lipe Shue of Landis, NC. She was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Landis, then a devoted member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in China Grove.
Eugenia was a servant leader and spent her career as a teacher and in customer service. Following college, she taught at Hudson High School, then at Landis Elementary School. She was honored to have taught hundreds of elementary students how to read and write. She also worked for 20 years at the Concord Telephone Company prior to retirement. Eugenia spent her entire life singing as a member of the choirs at Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Mark's Lutheran Church and Lenoir-Rhyne College. She also led the Cherub Choir at Trinity and taught piano to several children in Landis. Following retirement, Eugenia and her late husband Frank volunteered many hours at Main Street Marketplace & Meeting Place in China Grove. They loved traveling the world with their dear friends and travel companions Grant and Alice Ayers.
Eugenia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Frank G. Waring, III whom she met in 1961 at Lenoir-Rhyne College, and her sister Margaret Elizabeth Shue Shoe. Those left to remember her love, kindness, quick wit and determination are her daughters, Laura Elizabeth Waring of Durham, Lea Eugenia Waring (Stephanie) of Raleigh, her grandsons Alexander Waring Gilmore (Keeley) of Landis and Andrew Paul Mesnard of Raleigh, and great-grandson, Micah Terry Gilmore of Landis, nieces Stephanie Shoe Glasco (Brian) of Gallatin, Tennessee and Elizabeth Shoe Rivera (David) of Brooklyn, NY.
Also surviving are her dear in-laws, Fredrick Stuart Waring (Norma) of Clyde, NC, Margaret Waring Holden (John) of Yulee, FL, and Lee Waring Marske of St. Augustine, FL. Many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends are left to cherish their memories of her.
Laura and Lea thank the staff at The Retreat at Cary where she was given unconditional love and care over the last 12 months.
A joyful memorial service for Eugenia and Frank will be held February 1, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at Haven Lutheran Church 207 West Harrison Street Salisbury, NC 28144. Following will be a service of interment at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove. Online condolences may be left for the family at
