Raymond Paul Tilley

NEWTON - Raymond Paul Tilley, 64, of Gail St., loving husband, father and grandfather, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006, at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

Born Jan. 24, 1942, in Iredell County, Mr. Tilley was the son of the late William Marion and Ruth Perry Tilley.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Newton and was previously employed as an instrumentation tech with Fluor Daniels. He was presently a motorcycle mechanic for Tilley Harley-Davidson.

He was also a member of Kennedy Hall American Legion in Cleveland. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Janie Tilley.

Survivors include wife Dianne Blume Tilley of the home; daughters and sons-in-law Teresa Tilley Smith and husband Doug Smith of Charlotte, Shera Waller-Smith and husband Mike Smith of Conover, Shannon Yarborough and husband Bryan Yarborough of Newton; son Eric Flouton of Salisbury; grandchildren Bailey Smith of Charlotte, Kayla Yarborough of Forest City, Spencer Mills of Granite Quarry and two grandchildren expected (due in October 2006) Braxton Smith and Bryleigh Smith; sisters Janice Beeson of Hillsville, Va., Rachel Kale of Rock Hill, S.C.; brothers Don Tilley of Statesville and Arnold Tilley and Richard Tilley of Mooresville; and many special nieces, nephews and friends

Service: A Service of Remembrance will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Newton. The Rev. Daniel G. Martin will officiate. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park with military rites by American Legion Post 16 .

Visitation: The family will receive friends Wednesday prior at the church from 1:30-2:45 p.m.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 926, Newton, NC 28658; or Victory Junction Gang Camp, 4500 Adams Way, Randleman, NC 27317.

To the family of Raymond Tilley: I am saddened to learn of Raymond's death. He was a good man with a big heart. I will always treasure his friendship and the wonderful times we had playing golf through the years in Myrlte Beach. We will miss his jovial spirit. May God be with you in this time of sorrow.
