Robert Gill Givens Jr.

Mr. Robert Gill Givens Jr., 71, of Concord, passed Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018 at Carolinas Medical Center- Northeast Hospital, Concord, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Givens was born in Rowan County Sept.17, 1947 to the late Robert Gill Givens Sr. and Thelma Smoot Givens. A graduate of JC Price High School, he was a star football player. He joined the Marine Corps in 1967. He was last employed with Goodyear Tire Company as a truck driver. Mr. Givens was a member of Thomas Street Church of Christ in Salisbury. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Shadrika Ford. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife, Angela Ford Givens of the home; son, Robert G. Givens III of Lancaster, S.C.; daughters, Annie Gail Cherry of Granite Quarry, Tonya Renee Parker of Salisbury, Lakenza S. Ford of East Spencer and Sharrell Ford of Concord; brothers, Nathaniel Givens of Salisbury, Elijah Givens (Willette) of Cleveland and Leonard Givens of Lancaster, S.C.; sisters, Hannah P. Carter of Corpus Christi, Texas, Katie Palmer (Joe) of Raleigh, Sylvia G. Breedlove of Raleigh, Thelma Best of Raleigh and Edna G. Jemerson of Salisbury; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services: Friday, Nov. 30, 2018 at Thomas Street Church of Christ. Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Brother, William Latten, pastor/eulogist. Burial will be held Monday, Dec. 3, 2018 at the Salisbury U.S. National Cemetery, Statesville Blvd. location at 9 a.m. Hairston Funeral Home Inc. is serving the Givens family.
