Samuel Penegar Obituary
Sam was born December 3, 1956 in Portsmouth, Virginia. He was the son of Ann Dixson Penegar and the late Samuel Edward Penegar of Atlantic Beach, NC.
Mr. Penegar graduated from Appalachian State University in 1979 with a B.A in Political Science. He spent his entire career as a dedicated employee with the NC Division of Community Corrections, retiring after 29 years and 10 months of service.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 43 years, Cindy Belk Penegar; sons, Samuel Edward Penegar III (Tre) and wife Kathryn of Wilmington, NC and Michael Penegar and wife Lisa of Huntersville, NC; Four grandsons, Samuel Edward Penegar IV, Bentlee Michael Penegar, Colton Elliott Penegar and Brooks Cameron Penegar; Brothers Jim Penegar and wife Beth of Charlotte, NC; Scott Penegar and wife Kaye of Charleston, SC. He is also remembered by cousins, nieces and nephews.
Sam was one of a kind, God certainly broke the mold once he created “Big”. He was a devoted and loving husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, friend and dog Dad. The love he had for having fun, for boating, game nights, listening to music, enjoying life on the water, being outdoors and for his family were second to none. Sam always brought a “ray of sunshine” anytime you were in his presence.
Arrangements: A celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 21, 2023, 2-4 pm at Olde Point Country Club. 513 Country Club Drive Hampstead, NC 28443.
The family would like to thank the Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center for their care during his last days.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, Mr. Penegar's family ask that memorials be made to the Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center, 1414 Physicians Drive Wilmington, NC 28401 or Memorials/Donations in honor of grandson Colton to JDRF at www2.jdrf.org.
Atlantic Cremation is serving the Penegar family.

Cindy, Hans and I were devastated to hear of your loss. Sammy was one of the most genuine guys we have ever met. It was always great hanging out together when y´all were visiting Scott and Kaye.

Dear Cindy., there are no words that we can offer that will ease the pain of your heart. But knowing that all of us knew that Sam had such positive energy and was just one of the greatest guys in the world. He was a brother of the Ocean, a fellow Sailor. And truly loved mother Earth, and all she had to offer his respect of family and his love for you, and all of his family will never be forgotten. Just know that we are thinking about you ,crying a little. Although Karen had only met you and Sam through Dr. Watts , The more I told her about you guys the more she knew how special you both were. And she feels a very special bond to you, as she lost her husband in 2004. So it may sound kind of common, to say we feel your pain but we do and know that we love you.
