Steven Mozolak Obituary

Steven John Mozolak, 90, of Salisbury, peacefully passed away on Jan. 31, 2018 at his residence. He was born on Oct. 19, 1927, in Hillside, N.J., to the late Pavel Mazolak and Katarina née Borovsky, who were both US naturalized citizens and had emigrated from Slovakia, the heart of Europe. Steven graduated from Hillside High School in 1945 and after graduating, served in World War II in the US Army as a Personnel Consultant from 1944-1946. He then attended and graduated from Rutgers University in 1951 and finished his education by getting a Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration from Duke University in 1966. He spent his long career with Clara Mass Hospital in Belleville, N.J.; Broward General Hospital, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Christ Hospital in Jersey City, N.J.; St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, N.J.; and D.T. Watson Rehabilitation Hospital in Sewickley, Pa. Steven was a member of the NJ Purchasing Agents Association, American Hospital Association, American College of Hospital Administrators, and was a founding member and Secretary of VHA of Pennsylvania. He was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Salisbury. In retirement, Steven cultivated interests in Early Christian Church History, American History, Western Civilization, biographies and created calligraphy and copper repoussage. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 50 years, Genevia Clarke Sanderson Mozolak; son, Philip Reynolds Mozolak (Angela) of Petaluma, Calif.; grandchildren, Ryli Ann, Regan Olivia and Austin DeVeny; brothers, Emil Mozolak (Jane) of Toms River, N.J., Bud Sanderson (Maurice) of Columbia, S.C., and Maxey Sanderson (Gay) of Faith; nephew, Rev. Harvey Mozolak (Eileen; Shawn, Kristen Miller); nieces, Marlene Sabonosh (Roger, Daniel, Matthew), Paula Drankwalter (Richard, Timothy, Jennifer) and Karen Morris (Michael, Jason, Todd). In addition to his parents, Steven was preceded in death by sisters, Kathrine Pringle (Gordon) and Anna Kmet (Martin); and brother, Rev. Samuel P. Mozolak (Mildred). Visitation and Service: There will be a memorial service held at 11:30 a.m., on Friday, Feb. 9, at Shiloh Reformed Church, 100 South Main St., Faith, NC 28041. The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 10:30 a.m. There will be a private interment following the service. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to The Rowan Public Library (Attn: Pam Nance, Rowan Public Library, 201 W. Fisher Street Salisbury, NC 28145.)
