Thomas Foreman Jr.

Thomas Alexander Foreman, Jr., 92, died Monday, May 16, 2016, at the North Carolina State Veterans Home. Born January 21, 1924, in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late Thomas Alexander Foreman, Sr. and Bronnie Louise Efird Foreman. He served as a Flight Engineer and Top Turret Gunner in the 8th Air Force in World War II, flying combat in England and attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was a member of Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post 342. Mr. Foreman attended Catawba and Wingate before completing his bachelor's degree at Appalachian State. He began his career with Gulf Oil in Blowing Rock and Salisbury, and later worked in a variety of industrial positions, retiring from Norandal/National Aluminum. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for nearly 60 years, where he was an ordained elder, a member of the Maxwell Chambers Trust, and a longtime member of the Everyman's Bible Class. In his final years, he enjoyed making new friends, taking up Wii bowling, and studying painting at Oak Park, which became his home. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 52 years, Hilda Goodman Foreman, in 2010; a sister, Bronnie Foreman Hall; and an infant brother, John Efird Foreman. Survivors include his daughter, Daphne Anne Foreman, of New York City; a sister, Anna Foreman Comer of Salisbury; and numerous nieces and nephews. Service: Memorial Service Thursday, May 19, at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Randal V. Kirby and the Rev. Dr. Jim C. Dunkin officiating, to be followed by a reception in Lewis Hall.
