Allen was a 28 year veteran of the Salt Lake City Fire Department. He also was a mechanical maintenance worker at Hogle Zoo; he delighted the little children by driving the little train. Survived by his wife, Jean Burgon Nielsen Robertson; children, Michael (Sue) Robertson; Perry Robertson; Mark Robertson; Deborah (Jeff) McCarthy; Kitt (Laurel) Robertson; Gary Nielsen; Melinda Nielsen; Laurie Hill; many grandchildren.

Mom and I were able to visit with Uncle Allen not to long ago. We were sharing memories with him and when I mentioned the Hogle Zoo train, he got a real light in his eyes. As kids we all loved riding HIS train. I will miss his bright smile and loving heart. You are all in my heart and prayers.

It has been many years since I spent time with Al but the time we spent together were some of the most memorable time I spent growing up. Al was able to help me in ways that that were special; either finding ski poles that were stronger than I was smart (Direct Al quote) or towing me back over 100 miles from a weekend trip that went all wrong. I can still see the Uinta Mountains that Al flew us over one brilliant autumn afternoon.
Al was always getting things to work that anyone else would have given up on as a lost cause: Pink Pontiac station wagons, VW trucks, or a bunch of long haired skinny kids. Thanks Al.

Rest your tired hands
Wipe clean your weary brow
