Almina Slaydon Obituary

1923 ~ 2014
Salt Lake City, Utah-Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Almina May Carter Slaydon passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on October 1, 2014.
She was born in Spanish Fork, Utah on May 19, 1923 to John Furlsbury Carter & Alice Blanche Marchant Carter where she was the sixth of nine children. Her family moved to Ogden where she was raised. She later graduated from Ogden High School then went on to study music at Weber State University. Her love of music began early as she sang solos at a young age and throughout her life. She served in the North Central States LDS Mission (Minneapolis, Minnesota). After returning, she met her sweetheart, Jim Slaydon, from Pulaski, Virginia, who was stationed at Hill Air Force Base. He converted to the LDS church and they were married April 2, 1951 and sealed a year later in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Almina was an amazing woman with many talents and abilities that she passionately shared with those around her. She wrote and directed award- winning roadshows, readers' theaters, music festivals, musical plays, productions and choirs. Her talent for writing was eloquently expressed in words and music. Her wonderful leadership abilities magnified her callings as Ward and Stake MIA President, Relief Society President and numerous teaching assignments while sharing her deep understanding of the gospel. Through this, she touched the lives of many individuals, especially the youth in the church who still to this day express their gratitude for her influence in their lives. No matter the assignment or calling, she always went above and beyond giving countless hours of preparation towards a perfect presentation. Her love of the gospel was always central to her service in the LDS church. She later served as a missionary and trainer on Salt Lake's Temple Square.
She dedicated her life to the pursuit of knowledge of the gospel and she instilled in the hearts of her children and grandchildren an anchor that will guarantee ultimate joy in life by example and precept. Her family was her number one calling in life and she always looked forward to their many gatherings.
Almina is survived by her devoted husband; Jim and daughters; Becky Wilford, Patty (Brent) Langlois, grandchildren; Christy, James (Shauna), Kara (Ben), Erin (Steve), Jessica (Dave), Carter, Kimberlee, Daniel and Caitlin and 11 great-grandchildren. Also survived by her siblings; Richard (Grace) Carter and Carol (Julian) Operhal. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Ferrell, Maylon, Jack, Everett, Clarence and Alvin.
The family wishes to thank Millcreek Home Health and Hospice who tenderly served Almina during her final days.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 10, 2014 at 11:00am at the Wilford Stake Center, 3080 South 1765 East, Salt Lake City. Dear Jim, Becky and Patty,
Our deepest sympathies for the loss of your wife, mother, and our very dear friend. We too will miss her dearly. The many memories we shared together through the years in the Kenwood 2nd ward and Wilford Stake will never be forgotten. We have laughed and cried together and tried to produce great and wonderful plays and activities for the youth.

We kindly salute you for attending to her many needs in your own home through these last years. We understand it was not easy but worth it. Jim, you are a saintly soul.

May God tender your feelings these next few days and always.

Love Garth and Kaylynn Wakefield
