Andrew Gagnon Obituary

Andrew Ian Gagnon

1984 ~ 2022

Cottonwood Heights, UT—Andrew Ian Gagnon, 38, of Cottonwood Heights, Utah, died Thursday February 3, 2022. He was the husband of Candice and loving father to Eliza, Lincoln, and Anderson. Andrew was a dedicated Transplant Surgeon at Canyon Surgical Associates in Murray, Utah.

Andrew was born on January 22, 1984 in Burlington, Vermont to Fiona M Murray and Dave A Gagnon. He grew up in Underhill, Vermont where he developed a love for soccer and the outdoors. His brothers, James and Robert, cherish the memory during that time of building epic bobsledding runs together with Andrew on their backyard hillside.

Andrew graduated from Mount Mansfield High School in 2002 and went on to complete his undergraduate studies at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2005. He attended Medical School at the University of Vermont, receiving his Doctor of Medicine degree in 2011. He completed his Medical Residency in General Surgery and Fellowship in Transplantation Surgery at Lahey Hospital in Burlington, Massachusetts. He and his family moved to Utah in 2018, where Andrew continued his career as a Transplant Surgeon at Intermountain Medical Center, saving hundreds of lives and positively impacting countless others.

During his time in Utah, Andrew could be found with his family and friends in the mountains doing the things he loved. He was an avid skier, mountain biker, and hiker and took great joy in introducing his children to these activities and spending time with them outdoors. He could also be found many evenings playing board games and card games with his family, reading books, and helping the kids with their homework.

Andrew will be remembered as a loving father, husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend. We will treasure the memories of his warm smile, his love of his family, his dedication to others, and his genuine caring disposition.

Andrew was preceded in death by his father, Dave A Gagnon

Andrew is survived by his wife, Candice Marie Lamar Gagnon; children: Eliza Willow Gagnon; Lincoln Andrew Gagnon; and Anderson Lamar Gagnon; his mother Fiona M Murray; brothers James A Gagnon and Robert J Gagnon; and many aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews in Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and England.

A memorial will be held in honor and remembrance of Andrew at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary in Cottonwood Heights, Sunday February 13th, from 10am-12. On Friday, February 4, 2022 I was in my sewing room listening to the radio when the news was announced about Andrew Gagnon´s skiing accident. Since we had just met him in a doctor´s appointment four days previous, I was shocked and thought, "Could there be another Andrew Gagnon in the valley?" I didn´t really think so, and our family was shocked that day. He was the same age as our son who was his patient.

Dr. Gagnon was such a light in the darkest part of my life. Dr. Gagnon saved my partner Jared´s life just this August. Without him I´m not sure that he would have survived. We have seen him every week pretty much since August 11th and he was such a calming presence so generous with his time and listening to our questions. We are so saddened by this loss. So sorry to his family, friends, and colleagues for this loss of light in their lives. May you find comfort at this time.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Andrew went to school with my children Becky (same grade) and Patrick. He was a neat kid. I'm glad to learn about what wonderful things he did with his life. He will be missed.

Dr. Gagnon was my mother's transplant surgeon when she received her new liver 2 years ago. Our family will be forever grateful for his gifted work and his positive energy. His happy and caring disposition gave us hope and lightened our hearts through a very difficult time. I know there are hundreds if not thousands of people who can say the same from working with him. He will truly missed but his spirit will live on through all of the people he touched. Thank you, Dr. Gagnon. Love and prayers to your family.

Dr. Gagnon seemed like a great man when we met him 10 days ago. I am so sorry for our loss.

As patients, we are typically forced to choose a doctor with ability rather than bedside manner. Dr. Gagnon was the ultimate example of both....an incredibly kind, down to earth man, AND a highly skilled surgeon. When he became my husbands doctor, I felt like we'd known him forever. What a great guy and what an unbelievable loss for the medical community. Our heartfelt blessings to his family as they learn to navigate life without him. May God watch over you and give you strength. Thank you for sharing him with his patients.

We only just met this past summer as my husband and I became neighbors of Andrew, Candace and their precious kiddos. However, when i met Andrew, it felt as if i had known him a lifetime. Such a joy to talk to. Always willing to help. We will miss you, Andrew, but will do everything to help Candace and your precious children.

Dr. Gagnon performed the surgery that saved my life. I didn´t know how I was going to take care of my family and household. It has been a little over two years since my surgery, and I am a healthy product of his work. I will be eternally thankful that I have the opportunity to be here.

What an amazing human and soul. Please god, the universe, or whomever is responsible for our existence watch over his sweet family. May you bring them comfort, joy, warmth, and dissolve their pain, just like Andrew did for me. Forever Dr. Gagnon, thank you.

Dr. Gagnon you are one best bosses I have had the privilege to work for. I am going to miss our Tuesday morning catch up in the office with what adventure you , Candace and the kids had over the weekend. You loved your family so very much and lit up whenever you talked about them . You were always so excited to share the newest thing you discovered while playing outside with them . I remember when you hiked Timpanogoes last October and were disappointed there was snow and couldn´t make it to the top because the trail was closed. You were so excited to try again in August when the snow was melted. Well this August we will attempt to hike to the top so we can pay honor to one of the kindest humans I have known. We will miss getting lunch for you on clinic days and eating Godiva Chocolate cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory on your birthday. So glad we were able to celebrate you with the entire team just two weeks ago You are going to be the best guardian Angel to all of us and we will miss you. Until we meet again.
