Ann Stewart Obituary

Ann K. Stewart 1932 ~ 2006 Ann K. Stewart died quietly in her home in Salt Lake City, April 26, 2006, after a one and a half year struggle with a brain tumor. She was born in Provo, Utah, December 28, 1932, to Elmer Louis and La Verne Page Kammermeyer. Ann grew up in Provo, attending Farrer Junior High and Provo High School. Her love of the arts and education was inherited from her mother who inspired her with her own watercolors and encouraged her studies of the arts. Her devotion to education, art, and music blossomed early and her life was an experience of that devotion. She graduated from the University of Utah in 1955 with a degree in Art Education. She taught in Salt Lake City, Boston, Massachusetts, and Chinon, France. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother for over 50 years. She and her husband enjoyed each other, their children and grandchildren, along with travel and continued self education. For two plus decades she was deeply involved with the Utah Museum of Fine Arts at the University of Utah. When she became ill, the museum established a memorial to her love of the museum and the importance of maintenance and restoration of the precious items in the museum collection. She is survived by her husband, J. Robert Stewart M.D.; her four children, Gayle Marie Stewart M.D., Brian Scott Stewart, Martina Stewart, and Lawrence Edwin "Larry" Stewart; plus nine grandchildren in Salt Lake City, Portland, Oregon, and Berkeley, California. Brother, Michael Kammermeyer; and sister, Kathleen Kammermeyer Wagner. We would like to thank the Community Nursing Service Hospice Program and caregivers who so lovingly assisted the family in her care. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 2nd, 12 noon at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 670 South 1100 East. Street parking has been approved for the service. Funeral directors, Neil O'Donnell and Sons. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ann K. Stewart Memorial Fund for Restoration at the UMFA (Utah Museum of Fine Art), University of Utah, 410 Campus Center Drive, Salt Lake City, UT 84112.

I was so saddened to hear of Ann's death. I was out of town until Tuesday, May 2nd, and just heard about it. I know this is a great loss to her family and friends. I knew her only slightly, yet I knew she was a classy lady who enjoyed life. She was a consummate hostess and put everyone at ease in her presence. Her husband was devoted, especially during her illness, and they shared that experience like all the others in their lives together, with grace and courage. My thoughts and prayers are with her family, especially Dr. R.J. Stewart, as are my husband's. We truly felt honored to spend time with her.

Ann's smile always lifted my day when I walked in and saw her pedaling away on the bike just inside the door of the JCC. It was a pleasure to a personal trainer for Ann and Bob. I've missed her wonderful outlook on life and her laughter. To Bob, I will continue to look for you at the J.
