Ardis Harriett Webb Murray

Ardis Murray Obituary

Ardis Harriett Webb Murray 1919 ~ 2006 Ardis Harriett Webb Murray completed her mortal sojourn Saturday, July 23, 2006, at the age of 87. Born August 14, 1919, at home in Hinckley, Millard Co., Utah, she was the first child of Leslie Webb and Nellie Rachel Thacker. Ardis graduated from Hinckley High School in 1937, attended Henager's Business College, and Utah State Agricultural College. While in Logan she met Boyd Ashby Murray from Altonah, Duchesne Co., Utah. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple October 3, 1940, their union producing eight children. Her life was devoted to serving and nurturing her husband and children. Boyd's career took the family to Utah, Arizona, California, Oregon, and Virginia and then retirement in Sandy and Mapleton, Utah. Ardis supported her husband's career advancement as it led the family across the country to new adventures and horizons. A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ardis served in numerous callings in the youth and adult organizations of the church, acted as scribe for Boyd's calling as patriarch, and culminated with many years as a temple worker. Boyd and Ardis served together in the Mexico Merida Mission as welfare and leadership missionaries. Ardis' interests centered on the skills and tasks of raising a large family such as producing a prolific garden and preserving the bountiful harvest of garden and orchard while generously sharing with neighbors and friends. She was a productive seamstress and quilt maker. She was actively involved in family history research and the extraction program for many years. Ardis loved to read, especially enjoying poetry, church publications, and the scriptures. Facing the challenge of Alzheimer's disease and widowhood, Ardis drew strength and courage from poetry, the scriptures, and prayer. Ardis was preceded in death by her husband Boyd (2003), an infant grandson Stephen Robert Murray (1984), brother Leslie Fay Webb (1951), infant brother Reed Webb (1921), and infant brother John Oren Webb (1920). Ardis is survived by her children Norman Murray (Barbara), Jane M. Jefferies (Bruce), Kathryn M. Lobo (Celso), Evan Murray (JoEllen), Margaret Ann M. Sharp (Jerry), Elaine M. Cochran (Kirby), Robert Murray (Angela), and Golden Murray (Mary Ann) ; by 42 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren; and by her siblings Beulah Rowley Jensen (Homer), Calvin Webb (Carol), Delma Jean Galli, Elva Skeem (Fred), Gary Webb (Evelyn), and Ronald Webb (Wanda); and by numerous nieces and nephews. Mother, we love you and will miss you but look forward with a perfect brightness of hope to our eternal reunion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 28, 2006, in the Hinkley Ward Chapel, 188 North Main, Hinkley, Utah. Family and friends may visit Friday morning from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Altonah Cemetery, Duchesne Co., Utah. Dear Family,

I married a cousin (Irwin Junior Thacker) to your mother, but only recall meeting your mother once. However I served in a division church calling with a sweet sister (Janet Judd Wellington) who had lived with your mother while going to college. She said your mother was very intelligent and she had great respect for her. It seems her life was filled with service to others. The gospel brings us such great peace to know that families are forever. Sorry I wasn't able to be to the funeral. May you be blessed with wonderful memories of a life well lived.
