Charles Foote Obituary

Charles H. Foote 1932 ~ 2008 Charles Harrison Foote died peacefully at home on September 27, 2008 from heart failure, 14 years after receiving the gift of a heart transplant. Chuck was born on November 28, 1932 in Pasadena, CA to Charles H. Foote, Sr. and Mabel Picot Foote. He moved to Nephi, UT when he was five-years-old. He graduated from Juab High School in 1950 where he played basketball and was the Senior Class President. After high school, Chuck moved to Salt Lake City to attend the University of Utah. He worked his way through college for the Salt Lake Tribune at the circulation desk. He continued that work ethic through his entire life setting an example of what it was to work hard and how you could accomplish and be anything with hard work and diligence. During his college years, Chuck affiliated with Beta Theta Pi Fraternity where he made many life long friends. He graduated with a degree in Accounting from the College of Business in June, 1954. The day after graduation, he married Norine Wankier Foote and they spent 54 wonderful years together. He was commissioned into the U.S. Army where he served in Germany with the Sixth Armored Calvary Regiment. He was honorably discharged and continued in the Army Reserves for many years. In 1957, Chuck and Norine returned to Salt Lake and he began working as an accountant for Messina, Jackson, Caldwell & Co. He was a partner with several national accounting firms until he started his own firm, Foote, Passey, Griffin and Co., in 1986. He and his partners, E.J. Passey and Mary Kay Griffin built that firm into one of the largest local accounting firms in Salt Lake City. He retired in 2000. Throughout his 43 year career, Chuck helped many people with financial and lifetime decisions. He was recognized for two years in a row by Money Magazine as one of the nations top tax practitioners. He was the consummate professional. Chuck was an active member of the Salt Lake Rotary Club, Alta Club, and The Salt Lake Country Club. He was a lifelong supporter of the University of Utah and an avid Ute fan with season tickets to both football and basketball for almost 40 years. He served on numerous boards and community volunteer organizations, including the Citizens Committee on Judicial Compensation and Camp Kostopulos. He was the president of the Olympus Ute Football League and the treasurer of countless organizations. Besides work, his other passion was his family. He and Norine had three children, Catherine Angstman (Barry), Mark C. Foote, M.D. (Jennifer), and Marcia Panuzio (Tom). Chuck was the proud grandfather to six grandchildren, Christine and James Angstman, Charles and Carol Foote, and Anthony and Christopher Panuzio. As the patriarch of his family, Chuck with Norine made every holiday and birthday a special occasion. He showed his love with his generosity and "compassion." In the prime of his life, Chuck was diagnosed with heart disease that, 14 years ago, led to a heart transplant. This gift of life enabled him to develop his business, welcome new grandchildren, and enjoy his family. The transplant came with numerous blessings and challenges. He received extraordinary medical care and kept beating the odds. Thank you to the many physicians, nurses, and other health care providers that helped Chuck over the years. Thank you to the Utah Cardiac Transplant Team at LDS Hospital, with special thanks to Dale Renlund, M.D. and Sally Brush, FNP who were models of compassion. Chuck was preceded in death by his sister Eileen Maycock (Bob), He is survived by his sister, Barbara Hansen (Keith, deceased), and brother, Richard G. Foote. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Chapel located at 3401 Highland Drive. Friends are invited to greet the family one hour prior to the service at the mortuary. The family suggests donations in Chuck's name be made to the Deseret Foundation, in care of the Heart Transplant Foundation, 5121 S. Cottonwood Street, Murray, UT 84157-7000 or online.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Dear Foote Family,
I am very sorry for your loss. Chuck was like a grandfather to me, and I enjoyed every minute I spent helping him. I will greatly miss his handsome smile that he always presented to me as I walked in the room. He has taught me so many things that I will carry throughout my life. Chuck and Norine have always kept me busy, doing the things I love. Chuck, I will miss you dearly, and Norine, please don't be afraid to still call me....FOR ANYTHING.. I love you both very much..
My thoughts and Prayers go to your family.
