Charles McBride Obituary

Charles Patrick McBride
1933 ~ 2020
Farmington, UT-On Monday, July 13, 2020, one of the last great American cowboys passed away peacefully at home, waking up from his 4 hour journey to the great ranch in the sky long enough to say to his loving wife Sherry, "Hey babe, I love you." And then with a smile on his face, he was gone. Pat was born on October 15, 1933 in Fillmore, Utah to Charles and Dorothy McBride. He loved his life--and life loved him back. In spite of a two year battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis, Pat valiantly battled to stay alive beyond what many could have tolerated. He was tough!
Pat's earliest years as a young man involved all things horses: cattle wrangling, rodeo events, and mountain lion hunting. Pat graduated from Millard High School where he played center, was captain of the famous 1950 football state championship team and was a 1st team all-state selection. Unsurprisingly, Pat's first adult job was as a ranch hand at the Scottsdale Feed Yard. When a son, Darl, was born during that time, Pat's occupation on the birth certificate was listed simply as "Cowboy." The "cowboy" activities continued for Pat's entire lifetime. On two different occasions, Pat won the high point riding club champion award in the state of Utah.
Later, after years of working as an electrician, Pat and his wife Sherry became successful business owners of the Northern Power Company. This success led to Pat becoming a winning thoroughbred racehorse owner in southern California and continued his horse riding and breeding operations in northern and southern Utah.
Pat had a presence about him that is summed up very well and is quoted by a friend of the family by saying, "I love your dad: the twinkle in his eye, his hearty laugh, his gentle way of slowing things down, of making me laugh and feel important. Sorry for your loss and gain for having such a jewel for a dad!"
Pat is survived by his wife Sherry; 7 children: Kevin McBride (Emily), Darl McBride (Andrea), Teresa Eklof (Ken), Suzanne Ruedy (Mark), Jerri Holowka (Frank), Kim Thompson, Todd Thompson; 32 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren; and siblings: Marcia Peterson and Sharon Hodson.
One of dad's favorite sayings that would always calm a child that was in pain was: "It will feel better when it stops hurting." Pat is now feeling better as he moves on to the next life. The Great American Cowboy, family member, and friend to so many will be greatly missed by all.
Due to the current global pandemic and related quarantine conditions, Pat's life will be celebrated virtually by going to the following sites: Legacy.com, Facebook - Pat McBride page, and Russonmortuary.com In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation at ipffoundation.org or directly to the University of Utah Pulmonary Fibrosis Research Team.

I have so many memories riding horses with Pat in Riding Club. We always were out to win and gave our best. I could always depend on Pat doing his best in all the events that we were in together. Pat was always pleasant and fun to be around. It was always fun getting our families together with all of the kids enjoying it just as much as we did. Memories of Pat and his family in the mountains riding with our family will always be treasured. The last time I talked to Pat, we reminisced about all the old times that we had had together. Our condolences to the family.
We will miss Pat's warm smile and good conversation. Pat always made you feel a little happier just by being there.
Sincerely, Juel and Ann Rasmusson

The stories, laughter, and love shared with a close and special relationship I had with my big brother who I loved so much came to an abrupt end last Monday morning when he passed away. I am grateful that I was able to be with family for a wonderful memorial and last goodbye to him. There was so much love and warmth that it almost felt like life was normal again if only for a day. There is a void In my heart that can never be filled but I am so grateful that he was my brother and for our special relationship. He made everyone feel special and he will be missed by many people in his life. He was truly one of the all time great guys. RIP my dear bro and thank you for all my great memories and the guidance you gave me. He left behind a wonderful wife, children, and grandchildren to carry on his legacy. Love to all of you!!!

Grandpa, weve traveled the world together. I cant count all of the different cultures, countries, foods, deserts, art work, architecture, or places weve experienced together. But by far, my favorite was our gondola ride through the beautiful canals of Venice, Italy. You showed me the delicate and durable sides to life. Im forever changed by the stories you told me and the life you walked with me, even if at times we were continents apart. I will always miss you. Ill miss the way you said, well hello there Janie, howya don?, the way you genuinely smiled at me, and the way you taught me to care for animals. Youre powerful life lives on through us all. We walk daily with your experience lighting the way. Ill love and miss you dearly, forever. Your granddaughter, Janie.
