Charmaine Bauer Obituary

Charmaine L. Bauer

1933 ~ 2025

It is with great sorrow that we announce Charmaine Louise Bauer (née Studer) was called to be with the Lord on November 1st, 2025.

Char was born March 2nd, 1933 in Chesaning, MI to John and Hilda Studer. As the youngest of 10, Char developed an early love for competition and strong appreciation for family. She attended Chesaning High School and later attended the University of Michigan, where she was a member of the Tri Delta sorority, graduating with a degree in Economics in 1955. It was during her time at Michigan, Char came to know both of her true loves; August Robert (Bob) Bauer Jr. (whom she would marry in 1957) and Michigan Football.

Following her graduation, with her future husband stationed in Japan, Char moved to San Francisco with her longtime friend Donna. While there, Char worked for California Packing Company whilst she awaited her to-be husband's return. Upon Bob's return; they married in Sparks, NV on June 28th, 1957. Bob and Char's marriage was built on a rock-solid foundation of love, their union lasting until Bob's passing in 2022; a marriage of 65 years.

Throughout their many years together they moved many times. Bob completed his medical schooling in Ohio, where their two eldest children were born. From there they moved back to Michigan, eventually settling in Mt. Pleasant, where the remainder of their children were born. With Bob busy maintaining his surgical practice, Char spent her time both raising her children and frequently undertaking a variety of home improvement tasks. When she wasn't occupied with pouring driveways, she kept busy taking her children to fun activities such as fruit picking, swimming, skiing, ice skating and more.

In the fall of 1974 Char and Bob moved to Salt Lake City, UT, having fallen in love with the charm and stunning natural beauty endemic to the area. Char continued to take a keen interest in her children's lives, serving on the Board of Trustees at the three youngest children's school, Rowland Hall. As her children began to graduate and build their own lives, Char began to pursue the many interests that kept her busy into the later years of her life.

Char was an avid bowler; participating in multiple leagues and tournaments she would later pass her enthusiasm for this sport down to her grandchildren, frequently taking them bowling at every opportunity. She was also an avid golfer spending as many afternoons on the links as she could, always with her husband and often with her children and grandchildren. As an avid reader, she was a long-time member of the Ladies Literary Club of Salt Lake City. Char also possessed a deep appreciation of classical music; to wit, she (and Bob) held season tickets to the Utah Symphony Orchestra for many years and she would eventually become a member of the Utah Symphony Guild. Char was especially fond of the card game Bridge which she played at every opportunity; not only participating in multiple Bridge clubs but also encouraging many of her children and grandchildren to become proficient players.

The greatest gift Char brought to this world was love. Her love for her family, her husband, her children, and her grandchildren was unwavering. No matter how dark one's day was, Char was always there with a hug, a joke, a meal, or whatever she could do to make you smile. Char's children were her pride and joy, as were their children, and she put us all at the center stage of her life. Char knew every birthday, everyone's favorite meal, and could recount memories from their childhood. She brightened every room she was in; known for her quick wit and humor, she would have everyone smiling within minutes of her arrival.

Char was also devout in her faith, strictly adhering to the tenets of the Catholic Church. She attended every Mass she could, come rain or (frequently) snow. Her family takes comfort in the knowledge that her soul now rests in its rightful place at the Lord's side; though she will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed to know her.

Char is survived by her children John (Melodie), William, Anne Jenkins (Andy), Charles (Elaine) and James (Chija). She was preceded in death by her siblings, her husband Bob, son Robert (Laurie) and granddaughter Katharine Bauer. Char is also survived by her grandchildren Thomas Bauer, Michelle Walker (Tad), Ian Bauer (Evelyn), John A. Bauer (Chastine), Henry Bauer (Stephina), Amelia Werner, Joseph Jenkins (Aidan), Alison Jenkins, Genny Strong (Ben), Maggie Jenkins, Delenn Bauer, Luisa Bauer, John Lucas Bauer as well as seven great grandchildren.

Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 14, 2025 at 12:00 Noon at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1375 Spring Lane, Salt Lake City. Friends may call upon the family and view for one hour prior to the mass, also at the church. Char will be laid to rest following mass at Elysian Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South, Salt Lake City. Arrangements are entrusted to Starks Funeral Parlor.
