CHRISTOPHER MAYNES Obituary

Christopher Keith Maynes 1978 ~ 2011 Christopher Keith Maynes left us far too soon on June 20, 2011 at the age of 33. He was born April 20, 1978 in Logan, Utah. C. Keith and Diane Maynes were beyond ecstatic to become his parents. From a very young age he displayed his remarkable abilities. Chris was talking at seven months, using fractions before kindergarten and at age four, he drew a complete farm - from a perfect aerial perspective. His intellect and artistic abilities led him to pursue a career he loved as a freelance graphic designer. Some of Chris' works received state and national awards and recognition. His creations were a defining aspect of his individuality and personality. Beyond his professional works, Chris was an illustrator, a painter, photographer, movie creator and a musician. His art defined him and creating beauty was his passion. He was brilliant. Chris was often a quiet observer, not asking or expecting anything of anyone. He was of an independent mind, well spoken, well read and amazing with his written word. He loved to travel and 'be a local,' finding great restaurants, book stores and record shops. Chris was passionate about the people in his life and always concerned beyond himself. Attending concerts and film festivals were some of his favorite activities. He also loved motorcycles, cars, snowboarding, camping and the outdoors. His life was filled with people and events that truly gave him the glow and enthusiasm for life that he once felt. Chris graduated from Davis High School and also the University of Utah, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts. He faithfully served a mission in Florianopolis Brazil, a country and people he loved and returned to. Chris was preceded in death by his two young sisters, Melissa and Sarah and by his father, C. Keith Maynes. He is survived by his mother Diane Newey Maynes Butterfield (VeLoy Butterfield); siblings Benjamin (Terra and their son Beckham), Erin Maynes (fiancé, Ammon Loveridge); Emily (Chris and their son Brooks) Hardy; grandparents Joseph and Margaret Newey; extended Newey and Maynes families; birth mother Ra Chel Cullimore Jensen (Kevin) and Jessica Anne Jensen Cannon (Andre and their children); Jentrie Jensen; Josie Jensen and Ra Chel's extended family including Cody Cullimore; Bart Cullimore. A small gathering of immediate family and friends (which was more attention than he ever would have wanted) was held on Thursday, June 23 at Larkin Mortuary, near his home of eight years. He was interred on Friday, June 24 in the Kaysville City Cemetery next to his dear sisters and father. To remember Chris enjoy the beauty around you and find it wherever you go. Chris, you are forever loved - the shoe collection lives on. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.larkincares.com

I'm missing you more everyday. You made everything beautiful and you were a person that ignigted thoughts and change in others. You were so magnetic and so giving. I hope wherever you are, you have found the quiet you were looking for. I'll love you for the rest of my life and I'll miss you everyday.

Love you guys... Miss my friend.. I remember few things about my childhood but one memory still makes me salivate. It was with Chris in your garage when we both sampled some gravy train dog food as a result of a dare. I have often wondered if it would have tasted better if we had added the water to it. Great memories, Great person. Miss you Chris. Brad Iverson

Diane and Family . . . Words seem so inadequate at a time like this. Our family has such wonderful memories of Chris. He was not only a truly gifted man, but had a kind and caring spirit. Chris taught our son, Tyler, in Primary when he returned home from mission and had an impact on helping him learn the gospel and prepare for his own mission. You have endured much more than your share of challenges. Please know how much we love you and pray for you and your family.

Diane. I was so heartbroken to hear that you had suffered another loss in your family. Although I didn't know Chris, looks like he has alot of your attributes from reading comments. Cherish the memories of him and take comfort in the fact that he is with family members on the other side.

Diane, I was so sad to hear about Chris. As I read the obituary, it sounded exactly like the VERY bright little boy I knewin first grade at Morgan El. I am just glad that he had a chance to share some of his talents with us all. I remember him well.

To Birth Mother, Rachel Cullimore
I read the obit and saw your name. We worked together back in the '70s, in Provo, UT.(formerly B. Honyaoma). My son, was also named Christopher and he died last August 16, 2010, (36 years). I feel your pain and his adopted mother's pain. I don't think there is anything more painful than the loss of your child. Remember, all the good and positive times. The smiles, laughter, and thoughtfulness he displayed. Soon a year will have gone by, since I lost my Chris, and I can still break out in tears when I remember something sweet. RaChel, I send you and his Mother Comfort and Peace.

Diane and family,

I was deeply saddened to hear of Chris' passing. He and all of the Maynes children were so kind to Joan, me and especially our girls when we lived as neighbors. I am so proud to have a portrait hanging in my home that Chris painted of my 4 oldest daughters. Now when I look at at it, it will have an added special meaning.

My thoughts and best wishes are with you at this time.

I am so very sorry to hear that Chris had passed. I only new him for a brief time in High School but he made a very big impression on me. He always saw the beauty in the world and the people around him and that came out in his art and his personality. He was a great friend and I feel extraordinarily fortunate to have known him.

When I think of Chris, I remember how easy he was to be around. He was a good kid and I know you were very proud of him.
In fact, I remember when he left on his mission... we were all proud of him. Chris was a fine son... a wonderful young man!
I remember when Keith died, we all felt that you were in "good hands" because you had Chris. He was dependable and sensitive. He was a great #1 son.

I don't know why things happen like they do... You, Ben, Emily and Erin have had much more tragedy then seems possible. My heart breaks for you.

We love you dearly... always have... always will....
