Christopher Sprecher Obituary

Christopher Andrew Sprecher
1964 ~ 2014
Christopher Andrew Sprecher, son of James Douglas Sprecher Jr. and Harriet Ann Sprecher passed from a fatal car accident on September 10th, 2014 in Kohala, Hawaii.
He is survived by his wife Meghan Anne Pooley Sprecher and their two cats, Spicy and Genghis along with his five older siblings, James, Marianne, Vance, Steve, and Joe and 14 nieces and nephews. Chris lived his life as he wanted and for the people and places he was passionate about.
He was born and raised in Casper, Wyoming and loved the mountains and made his home in Salt Lake City.
Chris was employed at Deer Valley for the last 27 years in the Park City mountains teaching generations of families to ski and sharing his love for the powder. Many continued to ski with Chris long after lessons were necessary simply because they loved his company. As an off season contractor Chris built and remodeled homes, a skill that allowed him to explore new beautiful places and to keep his own home in a constant state of improvement.
His spirit of adventure took him to many unique corners of the world, and his love for nature, and particularly the Hawaiian Islands, led him to spend much of his life there. He was known for exploring new places with his wife, enjoying nature's splendor, skiing through powder, laughing with friends, and being picked on by his brothers.
Chris loved life and anyone who met him could not help but love him. He will be so missed. His passion for life touched many people, and we ask that you do something in the spirit of Chris; something that he would love, or remember something you did together and share the picture of that moment.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday October 1st at 5:30 pm at the Deer Valley Resort, 2250 Deer Valley Drive South in the Snow Park Lodge. A memorial fund for his family has been set up at the Mountain America Credit Union.

Chris was fun-loving, generous, and thoughtful. The news of his death hit me hard; it had been years since we'd seen each other.

To his family and friends, many of whom I have not met, I just want to express my deep condolences for your loss and my gratitude for Chris's friendship in high school and beyond. I often think of him and our crazy times together, especially our trip across the country.

Although I never met Chris, I met Meghan through a workout class. It was obvious from her stories that Chris was an incredibly outgoing, funny, talented, caring, and adventurous guy. I know he brought a lot of joy to Meghan. I'm so sorry to learn of the family's loss. My thoughts are with you.

As the mother of his friend, Fred, I remember Chris well. He was always a cheerful boy, talkative and polite. I enjoyed being a driver in the pre-school carpool with this group, they were always great fun. My condolences to his wife and family.
Rest in peace, Chris.

Hello, I did not know Chris very well, but I shared the role of PSIA Examiner with him and it saddens me to hear about the loss of one of our fellow skiers and examiners, who was so passionate about the sport we love. On behalf of PSIA and the Jackson Hole Ski School, Please accept our sincerest condolences. Chris and his friends and family will be in our thoughts and prayers. Be happy knowing that Chris inspired many by sharing his passion with those he skied and lived with. With warmest regards,

I was Chris' teacher in a number of courses at University of Utah. After hearing that I was new to Utah and wanted to get more into skiing, he generously gave my wife and I free passes to Deer Valley. His generosity was very touching. I am so sorry for your loss.

What words can be spoken that can adequately describe the pain in our hearts when we lose such a wonderful person and special friend like Chris? There are no adequate words... We will never forget his kind spirit, thoughtful heart or the dedication, that he provided as a gift to each person he ever met. Everyone loved Chris. He made the world a special place, just because he lived in it. We will never stop loving him, or missing him. Chris was an example to us all, how we should love and be loved by our family and friends.

I first met Chris during a fire course at the University of Utah in 2012. He was such a warm soul and made such a great friend over the year. We remained in touch and I loved to learn of his expeditions through Facebook. I am so saddened to learn of his loss, but will remember to live life in a way that honors what his memory meant to me. Rest in peace my brother, you will be missed!
