CLAY WATTS Obituary

Clay Clifford Watts 1924 ~ 2010 Clay Clifford Watts received his new wings and took his final flight on Jan. 22, 2010 at his home. He was born on May 30, 1924 in Murray, Utah to George Clifford Watts and Nellie Clay Watts. He grew up and was educated in Murray. After graduating from high school in 1942, he attended Weber State College and the University of Arkansas. Clay was a World War II veteran, joining the Army Air Corps in 1943 and receiving his pilot's wings in 1944. After his honorable discharge from the Air Corps, he married Jean L. Rasmussen in 1946. They had two children. Clay was employed by Burroughs Corporation (Unisys) for 39years where he served as Group Service Manager and traveled in Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Nevada, and Montana He maintained his pilot skills by flying sky divers for ten years and later, owning his own plane. Flying was his passion, but he also enjoyed boating, golfing, and most of all visiting with his friends. Survived by his daughter, Robyn Newport (Keith) of Woods Cross, Ut: his son, Fred, (Cindy) of Arlington Heights, Illinois; two grandchildren, Steffen Watts and Heather Lewis; and one great grandchild. He is also survived by his brother, Charles (Juanita) of Layton. Funeral services will be at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State, Murray, Utah on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at l:00 p.m. Friends and family may gather for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, 941 E. 3300 South, Salt Lake City, Ut. 84106. Please include Clay's name. Robin and Fred, We were so sorry to hear of your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of sorrow. I have fond memories of your mom and dad, and also of both of you in our younger years. I was able to talk to your dad just after your mom's passing and it was good to talk to him. Dear cousins Robyn & Fred, I am sad to learn of your Dad's passing. Your parents were very dear to me and I have fond childhood memories of them.
