Cory Sovereen Obituary

Cory Blake Sovereen 1970 ~ 2005 Our son, our brother, our cousin, our nephew, friend to all, and most recently, uncle to Kaitlin - after living a fast and glorious life, Cory has excelled to the perfection and gained the serenity he has always deserved. Cory B. Sovereen, better known as "Sov", was born to Debbie and Brent Sovereen, September 8, 1970 and raised with the additional love of his step-father and mentor, Robert Bennion. Cory graduated from Bountiful High School and Weber State University. His greatest love was nurturing long term relationships, many of which were conceived while participating on Bountiful High School and Weber State College basketball teams. He had a tremendous love for all sports, but excelled at snow skiing, water skiing and basketball. Yet the times he enjoyed the most, will always be just hangin' with his brother, Chris, and life-long friend, C.B., his dogs, Gilda and Nada and all the neighborhood children who loved him so dearly. Cory will be with us forever with each game of hoops, each powder day and each time the water is like glass at Lake Powell. It is then when we'll know Cory is beside us cheering us on to greater achievements. Cory is survived by his Mother, Debbie Bennion; Father, Brent Sovereen; Step-father, Robert Bennion; Brothers, Christian Sovereen and Cory Bennion; sister-in-law, Kim Sovereen and nice Kaitlin. He is also survived by Grandma Della Bradshaw, Grandparents, Mack and Melladene Wilkins; and Great-grandma, Bertha Court. Cory now watches over more nieces, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends than anyone has ever gathered in 34 short years on earth. Additionally, Cory is survived by his Aunt Kim and is forever grateful for the never ending support and love given to him. He is preceded in death by wonderful friend, Max Turner; Grandpa Newel Bradshaw; Grandparents, Bus and Donna Sovereen; Aunt Shauna Irwin and loving great-grandparents. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 14, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah, where friends may visit Thursday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Friday morning from 11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. prior to services. Interment-Lakeview Cemetery. Online guest book at www.russonmortuary.com. All family and friends are encouraged to come together to celebrate Cory's life with love, food, stories and memories at the Ridgewood Condominiums Clubhouse, 1374 Ridgewood Lane East, (approx. 2125 South) Bountiful, Utah directly following the services at 4:00 p.m.

Cory and I have been friends since his days at WSU. We lost touch but ran into each other years later. The two of us kept touch every few months or so. Cory came to see me shortly before his death, and we talked the next day. I just found out that he passed when I sent an email that came back, and then called him to find out that his phone was no longer in service. I am TERRIBLY sorry that I had no knowledge of it, and I wished that I could have come to celebrate his life. I already miss hearing from Cory and I hope to meet up with him again someday...

I first met Cory through a friend and then became friends with him. I ran in to Cory many times over the years and every time I was greeted with a big hug and often picked up and whirled around before you knew what was happening. Corey had a way of making you feel noticed and always happy to see a friend. He had quite a presence. I am so so sorry to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers to those close to him.

Dear Debbie and Bob, Chris and Kim:

Cory's services were very beautiful and very fitting for him. He would be really proud. All of the talk about the big bear hugs, loud laughs, THE WALL, skiing, basketball, waterskiing, not speaking for many months or years and then picking up right where you last left off, his love of animals and kids, always striving to be the best at everything and wanting to prove it....and again THE BIG BEAR HUGS......Not a moment has gone by since I learned of his passing that I have not thought of him and of all of you. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to ski with him (and Paul) one more time just a few weeks ago! I am so happy to have had that time just so recently. Thank you for always being so sweet to me over all of these years. I will sure miss Cory a lot and am going to take Chris for his word that I can call once in a while to hear his voice since it sounds so much like Cory's. Know that you are in my thoughts and if there is anything that I can do to help you in these difficult times do not hesitate to call.

Lots of love. Stef

Cory was a wonderful friend. We were friends since junior high and I lived up the street from him in Woods Cross. I also worked at Crestware and saw him daily. It is such a great loss. My prayers and thoughts are with your family. I found out to late to attend the funeral but I would of liked to of been there. He is such a great friend and wonderful person and will be missed deeply.

Dear Cory,

It's going to seem really empty when I drive home and don't see my kids playing out in your front yard with you, Nada and Gilda. It will be even harder not hearing your booming voice yelling "Hi neighbor" everytime I get out of my car. I'm not sure I understand why it's your time to go, but I know that Heaven will be a little more fun, and a little more social with you there. I ache for your family that is left behind, and all of us neighbors who will miss your loud, fun, good natured big teddy bear appeal.

Love ya Man, God Speed.

I went to high-school with Cory and that boy could make me laugh, I have ran into him a couple of times since high-school, and even though I hadnt seen him for years he acted like it was just another day in school and I had just seen him yesterday, we would share some funny memory and laugh hard.

I am sad to hear of your loss. My thoughts are with you.

I always enjoyed talking with Cory when I'd walk my dog by his house. Cory was a great neighbor and as stated in his obituary, the neighborhood kids really liked him. Several times I helped him search for Gilda when she had taken herself for a walk. Cory and I shared a love for kids and dogs. I will truly miss talking with Cory. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
