My heartfelt sympathy to my long time friend, Merilyn, at this tender time. I know it is so hard to part with your best friend and true love. Darrell was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who will be missed greatly. I wish you the best as you adjust to this enormous change in your family.

Dear Merilyn and family, we were stunned to hear of the Colonels passing. We enjoyed being your neighbors and were always grateful for the array of vegetables you two so thoughtfully shared. Darrell was our incentive to keep our yard looking as nice as yours. We miss the flying flags of his beloved corp and old glory. Sending love and condolences to you. Love your former neighbors Nick and Debra Miller

Merilyn - first I want to apologize for missing the viewings. I had talked to Bardee, who is out of town on vacation and she and Wayne send their sympathies, and she said she thought the paper said Monday or Tuesday but had thrown it away. I was SO sad when I finally pulled up the obituary this morning and realized that I had missed EVERYTHING!! I am so sorry, you and Darrell were such dear friends and I feel I have let both of you down. Darrell was a wonderful man and will be dearly missed. I pray that the Lord will carry you through the hard times ahead and you can rely on all of the great memories as well to ease your loss and sorrow. We will have to get together when you feel like getting out. Please keep in touch. Love you.....

Darrell was my high school tennis coach, I didn't fully appreciate who Darrell was back then many years ago. About 4 or 5 years ago group of us got together to play tennis every week. Darrell was often among the group. In his 70's he was still competitive. I had the pleasure of playing doubles with Darrell in the spring in a special event. We love and we will miss him in our tennis group. Heaven is a better place today having received Darrell. My
heart felt wishes go out to his family.

I consider myself one of Darrell's biggest fans. I admire him for his stature as a husband, a bishop, a school administrator and serviceman. He was a buddy to me as a sportsman and a mentor as an athlete. He will sorely be missed on the tennis courts by many of us!

Merilyn...what a sad day to hear about Darrell. Though we have been separated by years and miles you and Darrell will always be considered as our very best friends. At times like this we realize how much someone really means to us and how sorry we are that we allowed time and distance to cool our relationship. How we wish we had kept in closer contact. We do think of you guys and Joe refers to Darrell as his "old" tennis buddy. There are so many fun memories associated with the two of you. We owe so very much to you and Darrell, your example and gentle persuasions changed the whole direction of our lives and of our children. Please know how sorry we are and that we will love you forever.
Love,
Janet

Mr. Parkin was my sophomore history teacher at Bountiful High in 1964. We heard the shocking news about President Kennedy's assassination in his class. He was a talented man and gifted teacher and it didn't hurt that he was an ex-marine to keep us rowdy guys in line.
God bless and thank you Mr. Parkin.
