Dear Janice,
I am in shock reading this as I just mailed your Christmas card yesterday. Dave and I have been exchanging Christmas cards for years. He was my Dad's cousin. My dad was Pete Brunner, the only son of Helen Westerdahl Brunner. Dave was my last contact with Dad's family. I am so sorry for your loss and will keep you and your family in my prayers. My sincerest condolances to you all. Love, Jamey

Only a few months in Seoul under your command of the 8th Army Honor Guard showed me that you were a man of principle and honor as well as a great leader. I regret that I could not serve longer under your command. Rest in God's arms until you call us together in heaven. Our prayers are with your family in this time of loss.

As a member of General Douglas MacArthur's Honor Guard in Seoul, Korea, but was commonly known back then as the 8th US Army/UNC Honor Guard of Seoul. (UNC = United Nations Command) We were an elite selected group assigned to guard the Commanding General and his General Staff in and around the Head Quarters Building, the Commanders personal Residence (Jade House), the Hartel House were he dined with all the other general's and senior officers, also extended personal guard to the President of South Korea and last but not least put on Parade Ceremonies for all visiting Heads of State or Dignitaries who may be there for any reason at all. I say all this just to tell you that it always took that something Special from the Commander of our Company and one of those Commanders was our beloved leader, Col. David W. Affleck. As remaining members of the Honor Guard's Reunion group we wish David all the very best in his final resting place in Heaven.
