Mr. Austin has been on my mind a lot lately. His was my favorite class in high school and when my ten year reunion came around I went to the school and sat by the photography classroom for a while remembering how much my years in the darkroom meant to me. Sadly the darkroom is gone and the class converted to digital. He left behind a legacy of passionate photographers, myself included. I learned to view the world in my own way thanks to him. He was one of a kind and I'll always think of him fondly.
Thanks for the memories
Love Melanie

I just found about David leaving for heaven back in 2007. I have thought often of the Austin family who all treated me like family back in my youth while I was in the Army. I've missed all of y'all and heartbroken for the family. Love & God bless!!!

Dear Brother Austin brought us great comfort when we lost our baby daughter. He made us the most beautiful shadow box with flowers from her funeral and her little hospital dress. To this day, this shadow box brings us great comfort whenever we look at it. He was inspired to serve us during our time of grief, and I know that his work continues on the other side of the veil. Love you, Mary Jude, and still remembering your sweet family with love and fondness. Dave and Mona Wald (Ivins Ward - 2004-2005).

To Mr. Austin,
I am greatful that I had you as a teacher. When I heard that you had died, I didn't believe it because you were always the person that kept everybody up. You were funny, spunky, outgoing, and just a great person all around. I am terribly sorry that this has happened and my heart goes out to your family

Mr. Austin was my photography teacher at Hunter High. His class was my favorite that semester and it influenced me to pursue photography as a hobby. Mr. Austin had a fun personality and a passion for photography. He had a great sense of humor and his jokes always made me laugh.
My heart goes out to all of his family and friends.

My (now) husband and I meet in Mr. Austin’s class. We are both so saddened by this lose! My senior year I was in Dave’s class room for 4 of the seven periods in school. On Odd days (I think) I was in there TA-ing for two of his classes and in his advanced photography class. Dave was the inspiration for life for me. I am now a photographer of my own and there is not a day that goes by that I don’t think of the lesson’s he has taught me! He was not only the greatest teacher ever in my life but he was a great friend to both Andrew and I! My heart goes out to his family.

Mr. Austin was my Photography teacher at Hunter High School. He taught me how to look at a world through a lens. He also taught me how to appreciate the things that a lot of us take for granted every day and how to capture moments that I treasure even now. As a student I knew he loved what he did, he showed it with his actions (he always told you something positive even if it wasn't your best piece too!). I am very sorry about your loss and I regret that I lost touch with such a great teacher.

What a great teacher, he will be deeply missed. He taught 4 of my children how to enjoy photography and I always looked forward to parent teacher conferences just to sit and talk with this man, he truly loved what he did.
