David Coleman Obituary

David George Coleman, Jr.  "Playing Through"   David George Coleman, Jr., 75, of Salt Lake City, passed away March 31, 2003 of pancreatic cancer, a battle fought with courage and dignity. His final days were filled with expressions of love and concern for and from his family and friends.  He was born in Salt Lake City on July 19, 1927, the oldest of three children to David George and Zola Lemmon Coleman. His schooling included Emerson Elementary, Roosevelt Jr. High, East High School and the University of Utah. Dave also proudly served in the U.S. Army near the end of World War II.   On June 14, 1950 he married Janet Rampton Coleman in the Salt Lake Temple and they moved to Boise, Idaho where Dave began a tremendously successful 53-year career in the wholesale distribution business.  They returned to Salt Lake City in 1952 where, except for a 2-year job transfer to Phoenix, AZ in the late 60's, he and Janet raised their three children David, Stephen and Judy.  Dave was highly respected for his honesty, sincerity and integrity. He touched the lives of many people whom he associated with during his successful business career. He was employed, most recently, by Columbine Carpet Corporation where both he and Janet enjoyed enjoyed many great friendships and some wonderful trips to all parts of the world.  He was a long-time member of Alpine Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf with his buddies and especially his sons, daughter and grandchildren. Dave and Janet were also members of the ""famous" Duplicate Bridge and Dinner Club for over 40 years – a source of great fun and terrific friends.  Dave was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and will long be remembered for his keen sense of humor, quick wit and the great jokes he would share at the slightest request. Dave will also be remembered for his unfailing generosity and his willingness to help anyone in need. He leaves behind a loving family and a host of wonderful friends and will be greatly missed by each of them.   He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janet; their three children, David of Salt Lake City, Stephen of Boise, Idaho, and Judy (Jerry) Rose of Louisville, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren whom he adored; brother Jerry (Ruth) Coleman; sister Sandra (Kent) Christensen and an extended family of faithful and caring nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.  The family wishes to thank the wonderful hospice staff at CareSource for their loving and professional care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society at 941 E 3300 So, SLC, UT 84106, or any charity of their choice.  Funeral services will be held Friday, April 4th at 12 noon at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Dr., Salt Lake City. Visitation will be Thursday, April 3rd from 6-8 p.m. and also Friday from 11:15-11:45 a.m. prior to the service.
