David Curtis Jr. Obituary

Warrior Spirit. Lion Heart.

Our beloved partner, father, son, brother and friend; Dave passed away peacefully at his home doing what he loved: challenging himself by breaking his personal best fitness records.

He is survived by his father and dear friend David Cyril Curtis Sr; partner and soulmate of 33 years, Loralee "Booboo" Steele Curtis, daughter Nastasia (Tiffany) Steele (George), son Brandan Curtis; 2 sisters Julie and Jenny (Mike); brother Dan (Angela); 7 grandchildren Nastasya, Braxton, Amelie, Kai, Paisley, River; 1 great grandchild Scarlett - as well as his beloved dog Dylan, parrot Sam, snakes Neo & Trinity, and his spider Madison. He was preceded in death by his mother Maureen Farnsworth Curtis Card.

With an approach to life of passion and fortitude, Dave was a natural and inspiring leader. He loved his work and cared deeply about the people he served.

As a 38 year "lifer" at Utah Media group, Dave's Newspaper career began early in his life while throwing routes for his dad as a kid, later becoming a driver - (that is, until the day he sheared a telephone pole which landed him in the office) - an event that launched him into a rich and varied career where he grew into the man he proudly was, as VP of Human Resources.

Not only was Dave's story about the love of his work, his story was also a love story. A story about a man who met his soulmate (that he affectionately called "Booboo") to whom he took such extraordinary care. He prided himself on being the rock for his kids, his dad, his siblings, and his grand kids who were beloved to him. He was truly the most adorable "papa" to them all.

With his warrior spirit and lion heart, he dearly loved to climb the summits and peaks in the company of his son, brother, nephews and his grandson. His spirit craved the challenge to climb higher, faster, and farther, and he did.

Dave had a soft place in his heart for the Amazon Jungle and its plight. His love of creatures great and small was a gift he shared to all, and did so with a twinkle in his eye.

As a spiritual warrior on the path to truth; this part of Dave shined through with his kindness, care, generosity, and the ability to make everyone feel like the most important person in the room. He truly enjoyed inspiring and bringing out the best qualities in others so that they might shine - something which was such a tremendous gift to us all. His presence in our lives and in the world will be greatly missed.

I love you baby! I hope you broke all your records!

Please join us for his Celebration of Life, (followed by Dinner and fun!) which will be held June 20th at 5:00 P.M. at The Clubhouse, 850 East South Temple, Salt Lake City Utah, where no sugar, carbs or donuts will be served. BYO Protein drinks and a spirit of tears and laughter while we celebrate this man that we dearly love.

My memories of Davey were when we were children. My Mom would drop me off at Aunt Maurine's house to be babysat. Davey was always so kind and funny. I enjoyed when I could come on the family nights and their family would all sing and/or play the piano or guitar together. I will always cherish those childhood memories. My heart goes out to Laura Lee, his children and grandchildren, Uncle Dave, his siblings Julie, Dan and Jenny, and all the people who loved him.

I had the pleasure to work with Dave for the past 4 years. I got to know him quite well and consider Dave to be a good friend. He was a man who showed integrity, kindness and a true concern for all those he came in contact with. I am heartbroken for Loralee and all of Dave's family and friends. With the loss of Dave I cant help but think of a favorite quote: "Grief is the natural by-product of love. One cannot selflessly love another person and not grieve at his or her suffering or death. The only way to avoid grief would be to not experience the love; but it is love that gives life its richness and meaning." Dave was truly loved and will be greatly missed.

I would like to say Thank You Dave. Thank you for all you did for me during the Corona Virus mayhem. You helped me so much and was the one who would listen to me rant about it all. I like how we would converse about it all. You helped me believe everything would work itself out and when I came back to work everything would be fine. You will be missed by me. Say hi to my parents they will have a huge party for you for helping me.

We were born just ten days apart. Our parents put us in the same crib. And we continued to be close as we grew up. He was an awkward, earnest kid but very determinedthis picture of him, right in the center, captures this. Our families would vacation at the Homestead in Heber. Ill never forget the time there he caught a duckshe was angry and put up a good fight, but he did what he set out to do. The bunch of us cousins had a lot of adventures growing up. Dave and I went to our first Homecoming dance at Cottonwood High School together with our dates. By then he had grown into such a handsome young man. Dave had a beautiful soul, too, and was a very sensitive guy. I was proud he was my cousin then and now. My heart goes out to Laura Lee, his children and grandchildren, his siblings Julie, Dan and Jenny, his father Dave, Sr., and all the many people who loved him.

Oh my goodness, I still can't believe you are gone my dear friend. I worked in leadership with Dave for over 17 years now at UMG and he had such a gift of making everyone feel heard. He was truly that listening and calming friend that everyone of us loved so deeply and went to for guidance. Dave and I spent a lot of time discussing healthy living and about the gift of life itself. He and I made a pact many years ago that we would ensure that which ever one of us left this world first would be celebrated and not mourned. We both felt so strongly about what a gift it was to be alive and today I will keep that promise my friend. I truly celebrate your friendship, your leadership and the inspiration you were to all of us at Utah Media Group.

He will be missed by many. I am sure he is in heaven leading the workouts up there!

Shocked and saddened by the news of Daves passing. His door was always open as a friend or co-worker for advice, friendly banter over work, golf, health or life in general. He genuinely cared about those around him and showed a keen interest in your life as an employee and friend. Have known Dave almost 30 years and will greatly miss not having him around. Thoughts and prayers to his family during this tough time.

Dave had a contagious smile that made everyone feel welcomed at work. He was a natural at getting people involved, especially when it came to work parties. I enjoyed having his enthusiasm in our employee committee meetings and his humor with our Where's Waldo event where he shrunk down the Waldo super small and hid him so everyone had the hardest time finding it in the HR area. He was a great guy to work with and will be missed.

I have had the honor of working with this great man for almost 12 years. Dave was also one of my workout buddies. He helped me to get in the best shape of my life but more than that everything that we talked about during these sessions was inspiring and positive because that was Dave. My heart is broken for his sweet wife and family. We will all miss your smile and wisdom.
