DAVID SMITH Obituary

David Ferguson Smith 1920 ~ 2010 David Ferguson Smith passed away on February 7, 2010. He was born on July 22, 1920 to Robert Heggie Smith and Janet McLeod in Erda, Utah. He was the youngest of eight children. David married Betty Rose Thompson January 4, 1941, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 25, 1944. He is survived by sons David (Carol) Smith, Concord, CA, Dan Smith, Layton, UT and daughter Burl (Dennis) Franco, Provo, UT, 11 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. David graduated from Tooele High School and attended Diablo Valley College in California. He worked for 35 years for the United States Steel Company and its division, Cyclone Fence as an operations manager in Pittsburg, CA. David and Betty Rose spent their early, married life in Tooele and then moved to Antioch, CA. They spent 50 years there and enjoyed wonderful associations with family and friends. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served, at one point, 15 years as ward clerk. They moved to Provo in 2000. The two great joys of his life were Betty Rose, who passed away November 26, 2009, after 68 1/2 years of married life, and the "wee ones" - all those wonderful children who came after him. During the last year of David's life, he lived at the Courtyard at Jamestown. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude for the sweet kindness and dedicated service that was rendered. He was also, attended with care and compassion by Alpine Hospice, and we are so grateful for their service. Services will be held on Friday, February 12, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Edgemont Stake Center, 300 West 3700 North, Provo, UT. Family and friends may call from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be held at Tooele City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at: www.walkerfamilymortuary.com
