Dean VanAmburg Obituary

Dean Kenneth VanAmburg
In Loving Memory
Dean VanAmburg died in the embrace of his beloved October 19, 2020 of causes incident to age. He was born to Fred and Floy VanAmburg of Gooding, Idaho, and enjoyed his youth as an energetic farm boy. Graduated from Gooding High 1948, and attended Henager School of Business in Salt Lake 1956/57. Employed at Grand Central Stores 27 years and the Fred Meyer Credit Union an additional 14 years. He was the Treasurer of the Utah Chapter of PFLAG for 17 years. He cherished the 42 years he spent with his life partner and husband, Carl Boyer, with whom he shared the vintage car hobby. Dean was a master of the McGyver. He never met a problem he could not dissect, decipher, then divine remedy - if not outright improvement on the design - with whatever resources were at hand. His guiding words were "make do" and, when outflanking an observer's negative prognostication, "just watch".
Cremation under the direction of Demaray Funeral Service - Gooding Chapel with interment in the Elmwood Cemetery, in Gooding and a celebration of life announced at a later date.
I will love him, I will be constant, a faithful spouse and a faithful lover. Only for you will I sigh."
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Agnes Leidig Memorial Scholarship at the College of Southern Idaho Foundation.

Dear Carl,
Please accept my sincere condolences, I am very sorry to learn of Dean's passing. I've known Dean since I was a little kid hanging around my Dad's garage on Highland Drive. Dean would stop by about one thing or another and I always enjoyed eavesdropping on their conversations about the finer points of some automotive-related issue. Dean - and later you and Dean - became a constant around our shop and it was always a pleasure when either of you came by. There comes a point when people become more than customers but rather friends and the Dean and Carl team passed that point long, long ago. When I sold the shop in the late 90's and moved away, the two of you were among the folks I missed the most over the years. I can't see a Citroen or a Sirocco, an old Buick or enjoy a piece of pecan pie without having some fond recollection of Dean and / or the both of you. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers, Godspeed old friend.

Dean is one of the finest men I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing. His innate integrity, concern for others, loyalty, and unmatched perception are a model for us all. No matter the occasion, the pleasure of his company and conversation made you feel he was genuine to the core. Truly a gentleman and a gentle man. I will miss the twinkle in his piercing eyes and the wonderfully complex stories on so many subjects. Most of all...I don’t think it possible to find a more loving example of the sweet relationship Dean had with his life’s partner Carl. Such a loss is immeasurable. May his memory always be cherished.

A true gentleman at all times. He had a gentle sole. He was a walking encyclopedia of car knowledge. A great baker of rhubarb pies. A good friend. My thoughts are with you Carl.
