Dolores Hamson Obituary

Dolores McKean Hamson Dody Dody Hamson, strong in mind and spirit until the very end, has left this world for a new adventure. She was born December 28, 1915 in SLC, Utah to John Clark McKean and Isabell Annie Muir and fulfilled her life August 11, 2006 at the youthful age of 90. Dody lived her entire life in Salt Lake City where she married Daniel Marcus Hamson May 5, 1935 in Farmington, Utah. They were later divorced but remained very much in love. Dody was a caring and supportive wife and helped her husband build their three businesses with her keen skills in money management, bookkeeping, and good common sense. She was always playful, even up to the end, and lightened up a room with her funny sense of humor. Her philosophy was "Never grow up!" She was creative and talented and was always willing to share her talents with others. Dody's greatest gift was the love she had for others; she lived the Golden Rule of "Do Unto Others." Known as the "Candy Lady" on the street where she lived for 55 years, she encouraged many children to be the best they could be by listening to their dreams, providing guidance if a child was off course, and celebrating with them as they proudly shared their accomplishments. Dody was a PTA mother for 32 years, and also a member of the Lions Club and the Elks. Her greatest pride was her family. Survived by four children, Carole (Larry) Jones, Marcus (Becky) Hamson, Vicki (Allen) Allred, and Marci (Devin) Villa; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Walter Mc-Kean, whom she loved very much; and many nieces and nephews. Dody is preceded in death by her mother, father, brother, John Harvey Mc-Kean; sister, Helen McNair; ex-husband, Mark Hamson; daughter-in-law, Vaneta Hamson; and grandson, Dennis Jones. We would like to thank the staff at Brighton Gardens for the love and care given the past five years and also to her friends she leaves behind, you all meant the world to her. We would also like to thank Inspiration Hospice for the care and compassion given. A celebration of Dody's life will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 16th at 1567 E. Winward (5520 South) where friends and family are encouraged to join us for refreshments and to share their memories of Dody. Family and friends may call at the Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 Highland Drive, Thursday from 10-11 a.m. Graveside services will be held Thursday, August 17, 11:30 a.m. at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 4th Ave. and N St. In lieu of flowers, Dody prefers a tax deductible donation to www.childrensmiraclenetwork.net or you genuinely take the time to help someone in need, whether it is monetarily or emotionally.

Marci and family,

My thoughts are with you and your family at this very sad time. When I think of your mom, I remember the picture of her riding a motorcycle last year. I see that sense of humor and adventure in you as well. God bless.

Dody was a very good friend to my friend Nancy Means from the 1940's and got to be friends again when they were both at Brighton Gardens. Nancy said over and over Dody was a true friend to her and made her last days more enjoyable with Dody's company especially at every lunch and dinner. I appreciate Dody's sense of humor, her honesty and her friendship. Thanks to Dody for being such a good friend to us all.

To the children of Dody Hamson, She truely was an inspiration to me to stay young and to remember that laughter is the best medicine. She always had a wonderful sense of humor that I just loved and will always remember. I love her like she was my own blood grandmother, I am very lucky to have something that she made so that I can always look at that and remember her and her thoughts of staying young forever. Thank you for sharing her with me.

I feel honored and grateful to have known this very special lady - Dody. There was never a time that I was around her that she did not have a smile on her face. She had an amazing sense of humor and such a warm and caring nature. She will live on through the gifts of creativity, talent and cheerful demeanor she has given to her children and grandchildren. There could be no better legacy from this wonderful lady. God bless you and your family, Dody.
