Donna Baum

1952 - 2021

Murray, UT—Donna passed away on November 5, 2021 with her husband Phil at her side. Born on February 8, 1952 to Lucy and Doug Penrod, Donna spent her first three years in North Carolina, but she came out to Utah as soon as she could!

Donna and Phil met in 1976 and married that same year. Phil was the light of her life, but he always insists he married "well above his pay grade." Together they raised their two children Phillip and Gina in Murray, alongside a slew of family cats, dogs, and horses.

Donna had a robust career working throughout the pharmacological research field. She loved animals, and especially loved taking trips in the mountains with her horses. Donna was a talented artist and painted much of the artwork that hangs in her home today. Her green thumb ensured she was always surrounded by a rich assortment of plants and flowers. Donna loved her family first, but horses were a close second. She spent as much time as possible outside, loving both the mountains and the desert equally. Whatever the adventure, it was always better with her favorite whiskey and water.

Donna lived her life fully and vibrantly. She fiercely loved her family and cared for many people over the years. She had a sly sense of humor and brought out the best in everyone. Donna's deep courage saw her through multiple rounds of heart surgeries and infections, and we are truly grateful for every day we spent with her. "To know Donna, was to love her."

Donna is survived by her husband Phil and her children Phillip and Gina. A celebration of her life will be held at Starks Funeral Parlor on November 17, 6-8pm. Hey, Donna - I remember a Christmas party Ward and I hosted, way back in 1992. I wasn't going to partake of the libations, just planned on enjoying my friends and family and the holiday. But you told me you would leave if I wouldn't have a drink with you. So, since I didn't want you to go home :) I had that drink. You talked me in to a bunch more, and by the time you and Big Phil left, I was pretty sure it was a successful party. Thank you for that fun memory, for the books you shared with me, for taking my boy horseback riding, and the lunches we snuck away to enjoy while we worked together. You were a class act, as I'm sure everyone who knew you can attest. Go well and rest, my friend. Bright blessings on Big Phil, Phil and Gina. Thanks for sharing some of your life with me. I went to school with Donna in Tooele. I have many fond memories of her & she loved art classes. Marie Klem was another of her best friends who passed away in October 3 2003. I know they are together in heaven as they were inseparable. I lost contact with Donna when she moved. I am so sad to find out about her passing away. I will light a candle for her. My condolences for your loss.

Phil, Phillip, and Gina, we are so sorry about Donna's death. She was always such a good neighbor and so willing to talk to us. She was always so careful in taking care of the yard and seemed to always be out trimming bushes and flowers or replanting beautiful new plants. All we had to do was look across the street to see something new and exciting. What great neighbors for the past 43 years. We love you Phil and your family. I worked with Donna a number of years ago in clinical research. She gifted me a lovely ceramic pitcher that I still have on display in my greenhouse window. Now it means even more. My very deepest sympathy to each of you.
