Drew Petersen Obituary

Drew M. Petersen, M.D. 1913 ~ 2008 Drew Matthew Petersen, M.D., 94, died April 24, 2008 in SLC. He was born Nov. 27, 1913, in Richfield, Utah to Orson and Louise Mattison Petersen. Married Ruth Ellen Moore, June 29, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri. Drew earned a medical degree from the St. Louis University Medical School in 1940. He continued in private practice for 53 years, and was associated with Dr. Donald M. Moore. He has been an outstanding physician leader. Drew was president of the Utah State Medical Association (1967- 1968) and served on the Board of Trustees for 15 years as well as Speaker of the House from 1958 through 1959. At the hospital level, Drew has been president of the medical staff of both St. Benedict's and the McKay-Dee Hospital Center as well as serving as chief of medicine of both institutions. Community involvement and service has been paramount in Drew's life. He joined the Ogden Kiwanis Club in 1947 and has not missed a meeting in 27 years. He served as their president in 1957, lieutenant governor for the Utah-Idaho district (1967-1968) and governor from 1971 through 1972. He served as president of the Ogden Chamber of Commerce in 1961. Recognition and awards have appropriately have been given to Drew and his wife and include: The A.H. Robbins distinguished service award. He also received the distinguished service award from the Utah Heart Association and the distinguished internist for Utah by the Utah Society of Internal Medicine. Balance in life has been paramount for Drew. He and his wife, Ruth Ellen, recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. They are survived by four sons and one daughter; Drew M. (Sandra Ann), Natasha Ann Brunson (Joe), Dale H. (Dorothy), Donald O. and Dean (Kate). Sister Dorothy Jones. Also 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by four brothers. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tues., 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 East South Temple. A Vigil Service will be held Mon. 7:00 p.m. at the Neil O'Donnell & Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 South, where friends may visit Mon. 6:00-7:00 p.m. Committal Mount Calvary Cemetery, 4th Ave. & 'T' St. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Mrs. Petersen and Family,
Please accept our condolence, at learning of Dr. Petersen's death.
I always remember him as being so distinguished, and do appreciate the care he gave my father (his patient at one time), many, many years ago.
