EDNA HAYMORE Obituary

Edna Grace Fulghum Haymore 1923 ~ 2010 Following a life of service, compassion and love, Edna Grace Fulghum Haymore passed away Sunday, October 10, 2010 at the home of her daughter. Her influence and goodness were felt by all and she will forever be remembered for her kindness, gentle spirit, dedication and eagerness to serve. Born November 10, 1923, in Goldsboro, North Carolina, to Samuel Birchard and Mary Ann Carraway Fulghum. Edna Grace was one of four sisters, the two oldest having preceded her in death (Ila Gray Smith and Hilda Marie Burton). She is survived by her youngest sister, Martha Raye Fulghum. "In my youth," as Edna would say, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked at the War Department during World War II. She studied fine arts at Brigham Young University where she met Lester D. Haymore. They were married on June 6, 1950 (the day after her graduation) in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One of her greatest joys was raising her three children. Edna served with her husband as he presided over missions in Chile from 1975 to 1978 and when he served as president of the Missionary Training Center in Mexico City in 1990, where he passed away unexpectedly. Edna continued her faithful service as a docent for nearly 25 years at the Museum of Church History and Art. She also volunteered at the Church Office Building and the Conference Center since its dedication in 2000. Edna devoted her life and many talents to her family. Cherished memories of her generosity and loving attention are felt by her three children and their spouses: Sheralyn Haymore Wilkinson (Clayton), Judith Haymore Sandholtz (Wayne), David Lester Haymore (Robin); seven grandchildren: Whitney Wilkinson, Kelli Wilkinson Buttars (Jordan), Clayton John Wilkinson (Haylee), Sarah Sandholtz, Will Sandholtz, Tarin Haymore Christensen (Ben), Nichelle Haymore; and four great-grandchildren: Max and Collin Wilkinson, Nixan Grace Buttars, Cooper Christensen. Friends and family may call at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 S.) on Friday, October 15, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, October 16 at the Monument Park Twelfth Ward, 2795 East Crestview Drive, preceded by a visitation with family and friends from 10:45-11:45a.m. Interment Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. I served with President and Sister Haymore on my mission in Chile. They were a wonderful couple and loved their missionaries and the Lord. Sister Haymore was a lovely, kind woman. You have my sincere condolences on your loss.

I served under Pres & Sister Haymore in Chile. She played an unreplaceable role in a formative time of my life. I was honored and undeservingly privileged to have been touched by her friendship. She is a great lady. It will be fun to see her again.

Dear Sheri, Judy, and David,

I was thinking about your mother last week when to my surprise there was her newspaper write up.

Your mother was such a wonderful woman-always there when needed with her calm, sweet smile. She was a wonderful neighbor to my mom after my father passed away. She even did some sewing for the Five Alls a time or two.

You will miss her terribly, but knowing you will be reunited in the future makes all of this bearable. May you always keep her influence and your memories of her close to your heart.
God bless you all.

Sweet Edna was the Relief Society President when I moved into the 16th Ward. I loved her dearly. She was always a friend, and we loved the whole family and so enjoyed our association in past years. Sorry we couldn't attend her services, but know that our hearts and prayers are with you at this time of loss.

Our condolences to the entire Haymore family. Les and Edna were dear and important friends to our parents Harold Jr. and Afton Bowman. We, as a family, have fond memories of the kindness and the joy and laughter they brought to the gatherings we attended. May the Lord bless each of you with, as Paul said, "Joy and Peace in believing".
