Edward Earle Hobby,74, died at his home in Mountainville, Sanpete County from leukemia September 15, 2014.
Earle was born on August 15, 1940 to Howard Earle Hobby and June Bricker Hobby in Los Angeles, California. His father died when he was two and he was raised by his mother and step-father Everett Flanigan with seven brothers and sisters who called their big brother 'Chris'.
He completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Youth Leadership at B.Y.U. and received a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Utah. He was the valedictorian for his graduating class of 1969. Earle was a natural leader and had many "Day Jobs" as he worked to build the family farm. He retired as warden of the Gunnison Prison. He worked as a case worker at the Utah State Prison, a psychiatric social worker on the maximum security unit of the Utah State Hospital, Executive Director of a treatment program for narcotics addicts, social worker with the Division of Family Services, and mine foreman at Valley Camp Coal Mines.
During his career, he was honored with many awards, plaques and recognitions including Utah's Sheepman of the Year for 2008.
He is survived by his wife Kathy Hobby, seven brothers and sisters and his seven children: Everett Earle Hobby, Anjanell (Mark) Burgess, Matthew Clark Hobby and Jeanmarie (Craig) Hutchinson, Jennifer June Hobby (Gary Graham), Melissa (Mike) Harper and Michael Edward Hobby; twelve grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
Viewing, Sunday, September 21, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Rasmussen Mortuary, 96 North 100 West, Mt. Pleasant. Graveside Ceremony, Monday, September 22 at the Fairview Cemetery. Celebration of his Life, Monday, September 22, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Peterson Hall 65 So. State, Fairview.
