Edward Vetter Obituary

Edward I. Vetter 1927 ~ 2004  Edward Ignatius Vetter passed away unexpectedly at home of natural causes on July 14, 2004. He was preceded in death by his much loved wife of 54 years, Anne, who died on April 8, 2004.  Ed was born November 5, 1927 in Salt Lake City to Edward L. and Arvilla Vetter. He was the third of four children (Ruth Bradshaw Taylor, Virginia Sweeney and William Vetter – all survive him). His love of life was greatly influenced by strong family relationships and traditions that were tied to his German heritage. He was a graduate of South High and the University of Utah. He was a proud member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.  Ed lived a full and wonderful life. He was a distinguished business leader and a loyal friend. He had a successful career in banking and real estate development. As a young man, he purchased a small loan company located in Murray that became Murray First Thrift & Loan. The business quickly grew and expanded to the heart of Main Street in Salt Lake City. The location kept Ed in the middle of the local business scene, in addition to offering his children and friends a bird's eye view of the Pioneer Day parade. His employees were remarkably loyal to Ed and each other and their friendships have continued to this day.  He was involved in numerous real estate developments in Park City and, at the time of his death was associated with Chapman Richards Realty. He shared his talents, time and resources his entire life. Many people were the recipients of his quiet generosity. He was a tough businessman with a soft heart. Ed married Anne Marie Palmer on September 1, 1949. They are survived by four children, Mindy (Eric) Nelson, Teresa, Carrie (Stephen) Warburton, and Rusty (Phyllis). He had nine grandchildren whom he loved dearly.  After his family, Ed's greatest passion was golf. He was a member of the Salt Lake Country Club and helped develop Willow Creek golf course. He had countless friends with whom he shared his passion for the game and was a member of the Nut Club and Herrick's Hackers. He will be missed for his broad smile and infectious laugh.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday July 21, 2004 at O'Donnell & Sons Mortuary, 372 E. 100 S., Salt Lake City at 12 p.m. Friends may greet the family after 10 a.m.

Dear TV, I know that there is not a way to express sufficient sorrow to you at this time. I know how brave and strong you are. My prayers are with you and the other kids. Remember, you are our little Mother Teresa! With Love, Marg

Dear Children of Ed,

We were so sorry to hear of your father's passing. It is sad we have lost touch with you through the years. I saw Teresa at Joan and Richard Cutler's house and it was great to see her. Families are so important and I have always admired yours. Ann was such a lovely person and your father was such an energetic individual and they were so supportive of each other. That may be why they are together now. Please know of our love and concern for all of you. I'm happy Frank and Dorothea were able to visit with you. I had a previous engagement out of town the day of your dad's funeral or I would have been there. We certainly wish you our best and hope some day the cousins will get together. Our love and sympathy to you. Celia, Frank and the Cutler family

We extend our heartfelt sympathy in the passing of your dear Father so soon after your sweet Mother but we are all on the Lord's timetable. Nevertheless, we want you to know our hearts, thoughts and love go out to each of you at this difficult time. We were friends of your Mother's and didn't know your Dad well but remember their happy wedding day. May each of you feel the loving arms of our Father in Heaven surrounding you and His peace and love with you always as you savor the happy memories of them both.

Sincerely and our Best Wishes,
