Eugene Carlston Obituary

Eugene Leon Carlston 1956 ~ 2008 Many knew him as "Extreme Gene" but to us he was a soulmate, dad, son, brother, and friend. He was abruptly taken from his loving family Sat., October 18, 2008 while enjoying his last Harley ride. Gene feared nothing. He had strength and courage that amazed everyone who knew him. He was an affectionate and tender man who took care of those he loved. We will miss his rough hands and his strong hugs. Mom will especially miss her quiet moments and evening walks. He had two "Honey's" in his life, one his wife and the other his horse. Gene was an animal lover. He had an amazing bond with them and spent endless hours talking to and caring for them. After 52 years, he finally found the Ponderosa he'd always dreamed of. He loved his land and enjoyed the peace and solitude of the country. Gene and Arlene cherished their evenings spent together, their eating home-cooked meals, exploring the hills, and cuddling on the couch. Gene's intense love for life was contagious to all and his enthusiasm was uncontained. He took pleasure in every moment and wished others would as well. He loved outdoor activities of all kinds and was always searching for his next great adventure. His zest for life, strength, and ability to enjoy the simple things came from his adoring mother, Jean Peterson Carlston. His work ethic and "figure it out" attitude came from his father, Jay Duane Carlston. He was born August 25 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He will be deeply missed by his beautiful wife of 32 years, Arlene Snow Carlston, children, Kimberly Sheree, Staci Marie (Sonnet), Andrew Jacob Snow, and three loving grandchildren (Mathew, Emily and Jarrett); siblings, James (Leann), his beloved brother Philip (Vickie), Linda Mecham, Norma McHenry, and many wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. An open house will be held in his memory on Oct. 25, 2008 from 2-6 at their home, 1501 West Diamond Valley Drive, St. George, UT 84770. Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, UT (435) 673-2454. Friends and family are invited to offer their condolences at www.spilsburymortuary.com

Arlene and Family When you gave us the news of Genes passing we were deeply saddened.. I would of never guessed... He was so strong, mind, body, and soul. He was always the adventurest (remember climbing lilly lake) our many camping and boating trips...cut way to short! He always had a prank or a joke, life of the party and a laugh you knew Gene was around. He was always testing his strenght and manhood!! Im laughing at myself now because I can hear Gene saying.." Debbie... now dont go saying that about me" and then laughing. Even through the miles and from childhood living in West Valley, to all the moves both familys have made in the years you all are always in our thoughts. And Gene was a family man always taken you all where ever his next adventure was. You all had a very special relationship. We want you to all know that while Gene is away.. you have Family and Friends here to love and comfort you. We know he is riding into the Harley sunset and he will be waiting for all of us to join someday..Then he will say "Let me take you on the next adventure!" We were blessed to have him in our lives and will sorely miss him..Take care Gene. Rick said find a great fishing hole!! With love The Marshalls Rick, Deb, Jason, Luke, and Angela

"Its not the years in your life that count, but the life in your years." I believe that Gene was the meaning of this quote. He has so much to be proud of. And I know, that if you were to ask him about his life he'd say he had one hell of a good one! He has a beautiful family. a loving wife and his kids who will miss him dearly. I am so deeply sorry this has happend to you all, none of you deserved it. But keep your heads up, and your hearts strong.
Grief is like the ocean. It’s deep and dark and bigger than all of us. The waves can overtake you sometimes. But yet, still have the hope you'll reach the otherside someday. I honestly believe this. I apologize I wont be able to make it to celebrate his life. But I send you all my best, and my love.
