Our neighborhood was a fun place to grow up. Evan was a big reason for that. I know that my age group looked up to him. Rest in peace Evan, may God bless those left behind.

Evan was a good friend in high school. He was part of "the Goon Squad". I've known him since kindergarten, and we were in the same Stake at that time too.
Evan is the kind of friend you don't see for ages, but the moment you do, it's like you've never been apart. I am sorry for Evan's family, but I will remind them that Evan will see you again, and it will be like you've never been apart!!!

Dearest Mattingly Family,
Mom just told me today on the phone about Evan. I am sooo sorry to hear that he has gone from this earth so soon. When I was 14, I had a crush on him, I believe he knew. At youth conference he asked me to dance, even though he didnt have to. I always liked to believe it was his kind heart and great personality that knew to ask me to dance.
At my wedding, Evan told me that it was his sweet wife Julie that had gone out and had Naoto and my names put on the bathtowels. Yesterday I was getting ready to wash some towels and the one with my name was among them. I stopped and explained to my 15 year old daughter about how I got that towel... and remembering that I ruined a pair of pumps dancing to Rock Lobster with Evan... smiling and laughing at my memories - He is a very great man.
I hope and pray that you feel his love and remember his laughter to help ease his absence.
with all my fond memories and love,
Debbie, Naoto, Marjorie, Jessica, Anthony, David, Elizabeth Itabashi

Dear Mattingly Family,
It's been awhile since we lived next door to each other in T-Ville. You guys were the best neighbors! Evan was a great guy--Always happy, always smiling, and he always had a joke to tell. I ran into him and Cody at Wal*Mart some 5 or 6 months ago. We ended up having lunch together at McDonalds where he told me about his new motorcycle and his cancer. I couldn't believe how incredibly happy he was and how at peace he was with his situation. It was good to see him and talk with him that day. I will always remember it. God be with you in this time of need.

I send my condolences to your family. I was lucky to meet Evan at Rio Tinto. I remember just a year ago how he often visited my cubicle, not to hassle me about work, but to ask how my pregnancy was going and share his excitement of his grandson, who’s middle name would be his. He was so excited and loved talking of his family. I am sorry for your loss.

What a shock to hear of "Evan's passing. He was a wonderful guy and I'm so glad I was able to get to know him, share his story, and finally meet him. He will be immortalized by the ones who love him, and the book (in a small way) too. As he said, cancer is a disease of love because it gave him the opportunity to show you all even more how much he loved you and still loves you in heaven.

Dear Mattingly Family,
I am sorry to hear of Evan’s passing, but am impressed (and not surprised) to hear of the goodness and dignity with which he lived his life.
One of my fondest memories of high school was painting the block “C” on the mountain above Kennecott and Cyprus along with Evan and other friends from the neighborhood. If I remember correctly, Evan was the one who decided it needed to be done and orchestrated the event. I was honored that he let this underclassman join him. We had a great time that day, and many great times on the church softball fields. Evan always made it fun.
You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
