FA'ATUI TALIULU Obituary

Fa'atui Pi'o Taliulu 1946 ~ 2010 Beloved husband, father and grandfather Fa'atui Pi'o Taliulu, returned to our Heavenly Father on July 19, 2010. Born November 24, 1946 in Lauli'i, Western Samoa to Pi'o and Vaipapa Taliulu. He graduated from the Church College of Western Samoa and soon after served a two year mission in North and South Dakota for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a faithful member of the church and loved its teachings and the gospel. Upon returning from his church mission, Fa'atui met and married the love of his life Doreen Coffin, his wife of 37 years. He joined the United States Army and served honorably for 26 years. During that time they had eight children, 15 grandchildren and a faithful companion in his dog Riki. He retired from the Army in 2000 as a disabled veteran and spent his life enjoying time with his family and friends. Fa'atui was a family man who always put his family first. He loved dancing with his sweetheart, joking around with his children and spoiling his grandchildren whom he adored. He was a very humble man with a big heart and an even bigger smile. He is truly missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers including his twin and two sisters. Survided by his Wife Doreen Coffin Taliulu. Children; Catherine, Liliuokalani, Benjamin (Flona), Nephi, Matthew (Caprisse), Sarah (Jordan), Carolynn (Tevita), Leilani (Willie). It's about 5:30 am this morning and I just awakened from a dream... so funny really... I was thinking about my dear sister of my heart, Doreen, and remembering how beautiful she is, inside and out, how her life is full, surrounded with the love of all her children and the many grandchildren she has. They have just returned from another great Taliulu family reunion adventure, this time in Kissimmee, Florida where they had a great time. In my dream, I was remembering back to so many fun times we all had together in Panama and later in Hawaii. In my memory, I can still hear Tali's voice and his laughter... so much so that it seems he is only just in the next room... and in a way, he is, just beyond a door that we all have yet to walk through. His laughter was infectious, honest and like the sound of a brook tumbling over little smooth rocks in the water. It was a happy sound. In my mind, he will always be this wonderful cheerful man, a person I trusted to always tell me the truth and give me great advice. I believe that as long as we remember, those we love are never really gone too far from us, nor we from them. Maybe Tali was visiting my dreams this morning to remind me of his great love for his family, his aiga moni, all those who are related to him by blood and marriage and all the rest of us whom he and Doreen chose to bring into the Taliulu fold. Even after so many years have passed, I can still feel the importance and weight of their love for me and my love for all of them as well. This morning, my two oldest grandsons are coming to help me move some things around here at my home. I wish they could have known Tali... he would have greeted them as the proud Samoan grandfather would greet any of his strong grandsons... and they would understand the love behind the hugs. I wish all of us could hear Tali's laughter again and for the first time too. For me, he is eternally young and vibrant and a happy warrior on the volleyball court with a killer roundhouse serve and a sense of timing that proves he knew how to get into the flow state and play to win every point. Tali loved life, loved his beautiful Doreen, loved his whole aiga and he loved God. His legacy remains as the best evidence of a life well lived. Until we meet again, my sweet Samoan brother, keep us all in your watchful care from above. Amen. Your palangi sister Cathy.

Always and forever will remember my dear friend Tali and hold his whole family in my heart. I love all my "little" Taliulus... I still see them in my mind as they were when we were all so much younger... Cathy, Lily, Ben, Nephi, Matthew, Sarah and Carolyn... it was later that so many others came along, but my sweet sister Doreen and her precious Tali were the best friends of my heart and they remain so even now. God rest the soul of our Tali and may it ever be so. Amen.

We cannot express our love for you and our never ending thanks for all that you have done for us! We love you. Rest In Love Uncle.
Till we meet again.

To all who read the obituary of my very good friend Fa'atui Taliulu, I would just like to say that these words may tell you something about his life but they only begin the story. No obituary can really spell out the richness of the life that he lived, the wonderful family that he loved, his engaging personality and wit, the friends that he cherished, the works that he did and the faith that he held. It would take 1000's of words to write the story of his life and how much he meant to those who were blessed to be a part of it. Each sentence in this obituary is like a small thread that has been pulled from a large tapestry. Each word sparks a memory. Each name testifies to his legacy. He was a faithful man, a loving husband, a devoted father, a proud grandfather, a trusted friend, a good Samaritan, a hard worker, a competitive player, a wise advisor, an enduring warrior and much, much more. And we have all lost a very special person with his passing, but our memories and love for him and for each other remains. And isn't that the greatest tribute to him of all? God bless his soul. May the choirs of angels come to greet him and lead him to paradise and may the Lord enfold him in His mercy and grant him eternal life. Amen. Alleluia. Tofa, soifua o lau uo Tali. I will see you again my friend.
