George G. Maroudas

1935- 2021

Salt Lake City, Utah—"May His Memory Be Eternal"

George G. Maroudas age 85 passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on June 12, 2021. Born on December 6, 1935 to George Dimitrios and Margarita Yiannis Maroudas. Immigrated to America in April 1956 from Geraki, Sparta, Greece, with his mother. Shortly after arriving to Salt Lake City, he met Stavroula (Voula) Harris and they were married on September 16, 1956 in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

George worked as a hydraulic press operator at Ajax Presses for over 20 years; he was also a barber and musician. He had a band and played Greek bouzouki music for many church parties, weddings, and baptisms locally and in neighboring states. He opened and operated the Grecian Garden Restaurant in Murray, Utah in September 1976 with his brother Jim Maroudas and cousin Jim Zarkos, entertaining customers nightly with live music. He also, owned and operated City Cleaners in Salt Lake City in the late 1950s and Prompt Cleaners in Murray in the 1980s, together with his wife.

Preceded in death by his parents. Survived by his wife Voula, children Rita (John) Litsas, Jim (Diane) Maroudas, Dean (Eleni) Maroudas; grandchildren Chrysoula (Zachary) Christopulos, Dimitri (Rachel) Litsas, Amy (Thomas) Peters, George Gregory Maroudas, Joshua (Lynsey) Tedesco, George Constantine Maroudas, Stavroula Maroudas; and great-grandchildren Georgios and Yianni Christopulos. His sister Pat (John) Karpakis and brother Jim Maroudas.

A special thank you to Community Nursing Services, especially Susan, Doug, and Shawn for taking excellent care of our father. May his memory be eternal.

Funeral Services for George were held on Monday, June 14, 2021 at 11:00 am at Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church, 5335 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City. The viewing was from 10:00 am to 11:00 am also at the church. Interment followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Greek Orthodox Churches of Salt Lake City, Holy Trinity/Prophet Elias.

My condolences to Jim and his siblings on the passing of your dad. I remember him fondly from softball playing days and post-game activities at Grecian. Hang in there.
