Gordon Giles Obituary

4/13/1943 ~ 10/17/2011
Gordon died at Mission Hospital in Laguna Beach, California after a brief but valiant battle with cancer. His is survived by his children, Deborah Giles, Richard Giles, Jennifer Giles Horkan, Michael Vandiver and Nicole Giles, and 7 grandchildren.
"And here is the point, about myself and my co-thinkers. Our belief is not a belief. Our principles are not a faith. We do not rely solely upon science and reason, because these are necessary rather than sufficient factors, but we distrust anything that contradicts science or outrages reason. We may differ on many things, but what we respect is free inquiry, openmindedness, and the pursuit of ideas for their own sake." Christopher Hitchens.
Gordon's ashes will be scattered at sea as was his wish. A gathering of close friends and family is scheduled for November 5, 2011 at Noah's, 322 West 11000 South, South Jordan, UT 84095 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Jenny, Rick, Debbie, Michael, so sorry for the passing of your dad. I have many memories of him from my youth. As I remember, Gordon was upbeat and had a passion for sailing. Sorry to hear of your loss. Raquel B. Mogzec

I will always remember Uncle Gordon's laugh! Sending love to my cousins who shouldn't have had to lose their father so soon.--And to my mother and her siblings, compassion for the loss of your big brother.

Gordon was a dear childhood friend of mine. He made me laugh, and when he was hurting, he made me cry. Thank you, Gordon for learning to play Gershwin for me. You have and will be missed

Gordo - So very sorry to read the sad news. I have many great memories of our yachting days together in UT, CA and MEX. I pray you are now enjoying only smooth sailing with fair quartering winds under sunny skies. I will see you at the finish line someday, Skipper. Condolences to your family.
