GORDON MILNE Obituary

Clair Gordon Milne "Pa" Our incredible loving husband, father, son, brother, friend and "PRECIOUS PA" is finally at peace today January 21, 2011. Gordie's life long struggle with illness taught us all to live life to the fullest. He was a selfless man who loved sharing his talents with all those who knew him. He was born January 25, 1952 to Clair and Joyce Milne. He married his sweetheart of 40 years Linda Despain Milne, Nov 27, 1970. His proudest accomplishments were his girls, Nicole and Corinne. He left a lifetime of memories and love in the short years he spent with his five grandkids, Daxton, Easton, Dylan, Kynnli and Carson. He owned Milne's Texaco for 20 years and surrounded himself with his love of cars, building his true love "KWIK 56." He was the Tech Director at Bonneville Raceway where he shared his passion for drag racing. He was an accomplished woodworker and leaves behind a legacy of beautiful work. He is survived by his devoted wife and caregiver, Linda, daughters Nicole (Alan) Vollmer and Corinne (Justin) Harryman, mother Joyce Milne, brother Brent (Brenda) Milne, sisters Karen Paris and Jeri (Kevin) Jorgensen, five cherished grandchildren and faithful dog, Stella. Preceded in death by father Clair and loving Golden Retriever, Amigo. Special thank you to Jeri Jorgenson and Chad Bosen for their extraordinary gift of extending his life through organ donation and to the countless friends and family that saw him through rough times. We will celebrate his life on Thursday, January 27, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at the Buttercup Chapel, 1600 E. Buttercup Drive. Viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S., and Thursday from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Online condolences may be made at www.larkincares.com We are better people for having known him!

Linda and family,

How blessed we all are for rubbing shoulders with Gordie. I remember one Saturday afternoon years ago, I was trying to replace the fuel pump on my truck. Getting if off was easy, but getting the new on did not go so well. After five or six hours and teaching my girls some new words, I finally called Gordie. After he told me how to replace the pump, he said "Greg, if you promise to never work on your truck again, I promise to never try to sell tools." It was one of my great lessons in life, and I have pretty much kept my promise. He was an incredible man and great friend. He will be missed but never forgotten. Your girls and grandkids did an awesome job Thursday. Please take care and know that our Heavenly Father is in control.

Love,

Greg and Jannis Gardner

I am so very proud to have been in Gordie's life and to have been in his circle of friends. I had to move away in 1998, and I hated to go, but I called when I missed his friendship. When I heard his voice, it always made me laugh. In the last years, I heard more and more pain in his voice and he sounded weaker. He tried not to let me know of his pain, and he still made me laugh. I learned sooo much from him about how to raise a daughters. When I had mine, he told me to cherish every moment and never leave her side. I will try to be half the father he was, and if I am able to do that I will be a great dad. We did a lot of woodworking together and now as I do this same work by myself shaping wood I still hear his voice in my mind saying "Not that way numb nuts", and I laugh and do it his way. Gordie and his family were there for me when I was really down and alone, and for that I am forever grateful. They will always be in my heart. Rest in Peace Gordie.

Linda and family - I'm very sorry to learn of the loss of such an extraordinary man. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

I had nothing but the ut most respect for him and will never forget the many things he taught me while working for hours in his beloved wood shop. I still don't know how he managed to get so many tools in such a small space. I think of him everytime I look at the many things around my house he helped me make. He was such a fighter and taught me a lot about life as well. My only regret is letting life take me away from him except a periodic phone call. If there is anything I can possibly do don't hesitate to call anytime. 801-792-7475.

I'm so sorry to hear Gordie has passed. My fondest memories of him were at Texaco when he would let me tag along as a shadow and run the register, and when my sister and I came to your house with my dad Steve, we would play in the backyard. I haven't seen you guys for decades but if you need anything, please let ke know.

Dear Linda, So sorry to hear that Gordy has passed. He has such a great and strong Spirit. Going to school with Gordy and taking many classes with him was a treat. I can still hear his laugh. He has such a great sense of humor. He was fun to talk with and remember the times at Hillcrest High. Love ya Linda.

Jane and I were talking about my memories of you and Gordy. The one thing that stood out was, what a perfect fit. And you two were lucky enough to share the kind of "FIT" that mere death cannot diminish. Gordy lives on in all of our memories. That little warm "Tingle" you feel when you think about him is just Gord saying, IT'S ALL OKAY NOW. SEE YA SOON. Jane and I wanted very much to be there at this time, However, we are unable. Gather your family close and draw from thier love. It will heal the deepest wound. We send you our love. Darwin and Jane Despain.

To Linda and Family,
Gordie worked on my car at the Texaco for years. I always appreciated his humor, and his mechanic skills. He was one of those rare combinations of being an honest mechanic, as well as being a good one. When he retired I missed him, and his work. I missed my association with him over the years since I moved from Midvale. Condolences to his family. He will be missed.

Linda, Nicole & Alan, Corinne & Justin and the precious grandchildren. Thank you so much for letting us be part of your life and sharing in the legacy that Gord left. He was so much a part of our family and was such a good friend. We are so grateful that Justin had such a great father-in-law and know he will always be part of Justin. We have great memories that no one can take away and are so happy that he is now at peace and not hurting. What a wonderful reunion he had with the family and friends that went before him. I guess heaven needed a good mechanic and woodworker more than we did! Love all of you.

Linda & Family,
It's with a lot of sadness I sign Gordie's guest book. I think back at how fast time has passed and it seems like, just a few days ago, we were driving our 56's to Park City for the "Bow Tie" nationals.(22yrs. ago) You're all Good People and Friends. Cherish the memories and now know Gordie is a guardian angel,
he'll be watching over his Loved Ones. I know he's talking with Jesus and waiting for the time you'll all be together again.

My friend Gordie has passed and it's hard to believe he is gone. It seems like yesterday we were in the halls of Midvale junior high joking and having fun. I worked with Gordie at the lumberyard and he was a good guy to work with.
Soon after I was married and running a little short on cash Gordie was good enough to give me a part-time job at the Texaco. Also like so many others he was the only person I would take my car to be worked on. He was skilled in this craft and honest and besides all that he was just a good guy. He will be missed.
Linda and family hang onto those memories.
