Harold Tavey Obituary

Harold (Hal) P. Tavey "You'll be Missed"  Hal Tavey, our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away unexpectedly at home in Murray after suffering from a debilitating disease. He was born May 22, 1951 in Murray, Utah to Beulah Markham and Reed Vincent Tavey. Hal was a graduate of Judge Memorial High School and married Shari Davis Elwell October 22, 1976. Hal was a fun loving person willing to do anything for anybody at anytime. His greatest joys were his family especially his grandchildren, boating and camping. He could turn a camping trip into a major event full of many memories. He was a master craftsman and could construct anything his mind could envision, leaving us with many works of art. Prior to his illness, he owned and operated several businesses in the construction industry.  His most prized accomplishment was caring for his mother while she was suffering from Lou Gehrigs' Disease. His devotion and unselfishness during this trying time was unprecedented and his family was very proud of him. Survived by wife; Shari, children; Brad Tavey, Heidi (Mike) Richmond, Jeff (Angela) Elwell and grandchildren; Taylor, Riley Sophie and Jake, brothers; Joe Tavey, Danny Tavey, sister; Grace Gray, brother in-law; Delon Hawkins, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by both parents and sister, Linda Hawkins. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 17, 2003, 12:00 noon at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State St. where friends may call Friday 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Sat. one hour prior to services. Interment in the Murray City Cemetery.

I was one of Hal's best friends in grade school at the Cathedral, although we haven't seen each other in over 40 years. I am saddened to read of his death at such a young age. My condolences to his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a great friend of my youth, someone I remember with much love.
