Henry Beech

Henry Beech "Taking A Rest" Ernest Henry Beech peacefully passed away on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2005. Henry was born on December 20, 1919 in Sunnyside, Utah, to Edith Francis Preston and Ernest Beech. Henry married Boletta "Betty" Gaillard on January 6, 1946. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on December 20, 1963. They spent nearly 60 wonderful years together. Henry was known for his patriotism and was proud of his service during World War II. During the war, he served as a surgical technician in the 57th Field Hospital Unit in Europe. He earned the Bronze Star, Good Conduct and Victory medals for his service. After the war, he continued his involvement with veterans serving as a senior commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Henry worked at the Kennecott Copper Refinery for 33 years. After retiring from Kennecott Copper Corp., he was a crossing guard for Salt Lake County for 17 years. He always said his years as a crossing guard were some of his favorite, especially his time helping the students at Jim Bridger Elementary. Henry was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a clerk both in his ward and stake for many years. He also was a temple worker at the Jordan River Temple. Henry leaves behind the "love of his life", Betty; his four children: Lynda (Lee) Thompson, JoAnn (Dirk) Van Adrighem, Susan (Kevin) Thurgood and Scott (Cheryl) Beech. He was blessed with 25 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret Pfieffer, Edith Jeffs, Dorothy Quinn, Lois Peters, Viola Beech, and one grandson, Sheldon Thurgood. At the time of his passing, Henry and Betty were residents of the Country Care Assisted Living Center in Farmington, Utah. A viewing will be held on Monday, November 14, 2005 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the McDougal Funeral Home, at 4330 South Redwood Road. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 15th at the Kearns 10th Ward Chapel, located at 5025 West 4865 South at 10:00 a.m. A viewing will be held prior to the services at 9:00 a.m.
