Henry "Hank" Klymens Borys

1940 ~2024

Born October 5, 1940 in Chicago to Henry C and Ann Seibel Borys, he grew up in his widowed German Grandmother Anna Seibel's home in River Grove with his mother, younger sister Gail, and uncle Nick. After graduation from high school in Chicago, he headed West for college, first to Missoula Montana and later to the University of Utah. He earned degrees in Pharmacy and Pharmacology (PhD), followed by post doc research in Duarte California, Dartmouth College, and Boulder, Colorado. He was also an assistant research Professor at the University of Utah. He later left academia and worked as an activist against the MX missile and volunteered at Utahns Against Hunger, and other nonprofits. He worked as a pharmacist, on a pharmacy help desk, and for several companies as a technical writer. In 1985 he met his life partner, Anne Lemmon while working at Sperry/Unisys. When Anne's granddaughter Caitlin was born in 1995, Hank became a grandfather by default. They shared a special bond in their many adventures together. He loved fly fishing, and shortly before he died, offered a monologue of how much he enjoyed fishing and the beauty of the rippling waters in his favorite fishing locations. Anne and Hank spent 39 years together. They traveled to many Southwest sites and his fishing territories, enjoyed museums, camping, and frequent entertaining at their home. Hank lived the last 15 years with a slowly progressing dementia that led to his untimely death. To the end he maintained his reputation as "an old curmudgeon" for which he endured much teasing. He is survived by his sister Gail Lindahl (Neil) and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, December 10 from 6-8 pm, at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East.
